What's running after shutdown?
My e-90 has 300 miles on it, and after completly shutting the car off, there is something still running in the background. Yes, I have the CD Changer that mysteriously changes tracks and disks, but there is a definite continous running sound. I removed the CD magazine, went into the car, and STILL hear a motor runnning sound coming from the CD/Nav changer. I also removed the Nav disc and I still hear it. It would then seem logical that my battery is being constantly drained. Anyone else experience this or perhaps you need to reamain in your car after shutting it down and listen to the "CD Changer motor running??? WTF??? The last thing we all need is a dead battery and the manual tells you SQUAT!!!!

What you both mean is, "it's called". If you are going to be a smart ass and try to correct people at least do it right. On the other hand, if you are trying to please yourself with the pathetic knowledge that you possess, then I can't blame you for restating it like that.

that is the "get a hobby" fan. it stops when you leave the car. and if you waited in there for 70 minutes and it kept going, that means you REALLLY need to do something better with your time.

I believe the fan is turned off after the car is turned off, before it goes into standby mode. Stand by mode is when you turn off the car and ignition and locked it, but it keeps the system memory still powered (such as heated seats, etc.) and turns those setting back on if you start your car back up within that half hour.

I have a fan that runs after the car is turned off but it sounds as if it is a fan cooling the DVD player. Since the Nav DVD is always spinning it has to get pretty warm...that's my guess. If you don't have Nav and you hear it... . Mine is definately not the fan near the radiator...that has a completely different sound.

anyway, i think i read somewhere a while ago that the fan is running after shutdown to cool down the motor to save it from a shock under certain conditions. i'm not sure about details but i think it's something like that.

Aside from the fan, after leaving the car I sometimes hear some sort of mechanical motor that sounds for maybe a second. Sounds as if some solenoid is switching something off/on.

Its probably the Electromechanical Steering Wheel Lock. [http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=13439] Its the solenoid that locks the steering wheel in place when you turn off the ignition similar to pulling the key out on other cars.
