Garmin Dash Mini 2 - Red light
Hey guys, I recently purchased a dash cam mini 2. Love the size and video seems to be great for what it is. But the bottom light is a solid red the entire time. I know that means it's recording and presumably if the power is on, it's gonna record non-stop, meaning a bright red light the entire time? Is there anyway to turn this light off?
Also not having the easiest time connecting to the cam using the app to change anything. Keeps saying connecting. Especially when trying to get a live view. Seems like a great little device if I can work these couple things out. Any of y'all have any suggestions? |

I was shopping for a small camera and considered the mini dash 2. Researching, looks like you cannot disable the status lights. I went with the Viofo a119 mini 2 instead.

Yeah the most important thing to me is it being unnoticeable. That's why I loved it's form factor. I couldn't get over the connection issues and the red light. It's really bright at night. I just started a return on Amazon. Hope your dash cam is working out well for u.

Thanks for the info. I may try this one out. How's the video smoothness though? I've seen some samples online where the video looks a little choppy with a bit of studder.

I have a couple of these, in both applications I mounted it on the right side, behind the rear view mirror so it's not visible to the driver.
But I agree it's an annoying feature. The lights (3) on my BlackVue are so dim I can barely see them in daylight. If you are using CarPlay, you have to disable it to connect. |

I have the Dash Cam Mini 2 and love it. First time I took it out at night I learned how distracting the red lights were. The solution was easy though - just move it up and more towards the rear view mirror by about an inch. It's totally obstructed by the mirror now. I'm still using it like this two years later. Here is a picture of the original installation, then after I moved it, and what it looks now like while driving.

I posted a couple short clips taken with the Dash Cam Mini 2. This one has the optional polarized lens filter:
