Is the F48 much bigger than the E84?

Hi all!

I just had a chance to try my sister's E84 X1 xDrive28i M Sport, and it was a lovely thing to drive. From the driver's seat, it really felt like I was back in my E90 M3 for the way the cabin wrapped so tightly around me...yet there was still a ton of room in the trunk. It seemed like the perfect compact SUV for city folks.

How does the F48 compare for size in the cabin and on the road? I had an F48 loaner a long time ago--and I loved it--but my sense is that the E84 X1 is smaller on the road and more car-like from behind the wheel!

Thanks!
Mike

(Here's the blog post I wrote on the E84, if you're interested!)

The F48 is a radically different platform than the E84. The E84 was based on the 3-series of the time which is why it felt like a 3-series sedan but with a lot more cargo room. The F48 on the other hand is a front wheel drive platform shared with Mini. That said, despite some of the flak that the F48 has gotten from BMW 'purists', it's actually not a bad car at all. It also has more cargo room than the E84, at 17.8 cubic feet versus 14.8 cubic feet of the E84.

Got it, the storage is a little better in the F48.

Yeah, I really liked the driving feel of the F48, too! Mini certainly has some good platforms to build off of!
