Go Bernie!

Not sure why folks on this forum throw around terms like communism when talking about Bernie. The relative level of rugged individualism versus public commons "socialism" has ALWAYS been a spectrum. We have public roads, public schools, public police, public fire protection, etc, and the vast majority of Americans accept those institutions.

Public Medicare and Social Security are slightly more controversial, but again, largely accepted.

So letting more Americans participate in Medicare, or thinking we should encourage less burdensome education funding, protecting Social Security, transitioning to a greener economy shouldn't make anyone on this forum think Stalin is about to win the presidency. We will still have a capitalistic economy... just somewhat better regulated. We'll still have individual liberties, but maybe with a few additional restrictions on some firearms.

Everything is going to be okay.
Pete is winning the delegate votes.

1) Communism is when the government has total control over all means of production and there is no private enterprise.

2) Can you please name one single type of enterprise that Bernie has said is better in the private sector?

3) He is on record stating that the following enterprises should be nationalized and controlled solely by government: All utilities, all manufacturing, all heavy industry, all agriculture, all healthcare, all education, and all banking and finance.

4) How is the above not exactly the definition of communism?

Well, I was going to come back with a snide comment that the government can't do anything better than the private sector. Then I looked at some data on overhead costs for private health insurance vs. medicare, medicaid and SS. I found data I did not believe and looked harder and kept finding the same data from multiple sources. The total overhead for SS, Medicare and Medicaid runs about 1.2%. Private health insurance runs 12%-19% overhead. Hmmm.... I tried hard to find out the holes in the data, but could not (at least not in 15 minutes). So I will leave it at that and skip the snide comment.

I agree with you 100%. Not feeling the Bern.

On #3, there are some of those that should be controlled by government. Not 100%, but healthcare should be nationalized and then have private care for people that can afford it. But people that cannot afford specialized or top tier care should still be covered for basic care. The way we do healthcare with the for profit model is crap. If some of the top performing stocks are healthcare providers something is wrong. Private prisons and jails should not exist. Another terrible model. And education, I am fine with private education but state college, trade schools, and the pathways to the majority of middle class careers should be covered. Want to send your kid to some snobby business school or hippy dippy art school, go ahead and pay for it.

College athletes should be paid as well. Cap what they can get paid, but give them a stipend or allowance that scales to the number of hours they are involved in related activities just like any other student employee.

The rest are fine as private entities with regulatory bodies keeping them within defined margins. It is vital to national security that these entities maintain standards and investment to meet modern standards.

1. I think that's socialism.

Communism:

Communism (from Latin communis, "common, universal")[1][2] is a philosophical, social, political and economic ideology and movement whose ultimate goal is the establishment of a communist society, namely a socioeconomic order structured upon the ideas of common ownership of the means of production and the absence of social classes, money[3][4] and the state.

Hopefully this will seal the fate of this Byzantine caucus process. What's wrong with a friggin' ballot?

My wife and I caucused in a Washington primary. It was a really interesting event. We noticed that the caucus participants were overwhelmingly retired, stay at home moms who had managed to keep staying at home long after the kids were off in school, and college kids skipping class. Basically anyone who works for a living was not involved, because they were at work!
