The installation requires a lot of fidgiting to get the wires right so they don't get in the way of the shell, and that part took longer than expected and I had to be perfect since there was a broken tab at the bottom corner, but now I'm finding that the default password of password12345678 doesn't let me connect to the wifi to set it up with roadcam.

There are 2 Apps that you can try. RoadCam is one of them. Try the other App and see. I thought the default password was 123456789?

They couldn't have made the instructions worse if they tried, you're right, the password is 12345678 but the fact they bolded both had me thinking they'd set it to password12345678 because why not?

So its up and running but the dumb app only sits at loading preview and never loads, I've since pulled the memory card out and I can see the video on it that it's been recording. I wonder if the app isn't iOS 13 ready, I'll try an ipod touch with 12.x on it as a test.

and indeed, it's not iOS 13.1.3 compatible on an iphone 11, the crappy Roadcam app does work just fine on the ipod touch in the car with iOS 12.x on it.

The model I ordered is not FITCAMX but device is 100% identical from aliexpress. They suggested the app "TimaCam" why don't you try that on iOS 13 and see if it works?

Received the Fitcam a couple of days early and performed the install last evening.
Have to agree with Dianebrat that the instructions are totally worthless.
I received the correct wiring harness for my particular build that has the driver’s assistance package with auto high beams, lane keeping warning, etc.

For my particular model, the wiring harness connected via a small red connector just below the windshield, not the one in the pictures or videos. I needed needle nose pliers in order to undo this connection as it is tight agains the windshield and the connector is small in size.

While initially confusing, the connection became obvious As it was the only red connector and looked exactly like the one in the harness.

Also agree with Dianebrat that closing up the housing was somewhat of an ass pain requiring manipulating the wires this way and that in order to have them fit in a fairly tight enclosure.

Once that was completed, I got my unit to connect to Road Cam this morning on iPhone IOS 13

First I opened the Wi-Fi tab in my IPhone settings and found the dash cam which showed up as CARDV-966b. Clicked on it, then entered the password “12345678”
Then I opened RoadCam app and it just worked.

Whole process took longer than I expected, but mostly that was due to struggles getting all the wiring to fit in order to close up the housing.

So far, so good. I will update this post in a week or two once I have tested to make sure that I haven’t lost any important functions.

It may be too late, but do you have a photo of the small red connector? I have the driver assistance package and want to make sure I understand the installation complexity before taking the plunge!

My harness looked very similar except that the connector was red instead of green. Don’t want to take apart the camera, but red connector sat right above the one they show you disconnecting in the video. You can’t miss it.

Don’t remember if there was a green connector.

So far everything is working well. Couple things I have learned is that in order for RoadCam to connect to your dash cam on iPhone, your iPhone must be linked via Wi-Fi to the dash cam. In my vehicle, my phone is always trying to connect to BMW via Apple Play. I have to turn the vehicle off in order to keep it from doing so. When vehicle is off, I can connect to the dash cam and download my recordings.

I do not know if it is drawing power all of the time, but it does if you connect to it via Road Cam. You can record via Road Cam app while the vehicle is off.

That connector has the round plug for the camera, and I see the green plug that plugs into the power connector in the mirror assembly, but what I don't see is the companion to the green where you plug the car harness into the camera harness. OH.. and the color of the connector has no bearing on its operation, be it red, green, black, orange, etc so don't anyone get hung up on that.

Assuming that you have the 3-pin connector being used and it has something in it (in your market) then the camera harness acts as an extension cord between it with the round plug powering the camera.

Oh and TimaCam works just fine on my iphone 11 with iOS 13.1.3 which was a nice surprise.

To clarify, the RoadCam app can still connect after the car is completely shut off, even after waiting 10 minutes for retained power to shut down?

If so, the dashcam wifi must be running all the time draining the battery. That would be a dealbreaker for me since I go away on travel for a few weeks.

No it does not. I looked at my saved video and it does not record the entire 8 hrs that my car was parked while I am at work.

I think he means dashcam wifi keeps running throughout. Which will eventually drain the car battery in long run

I don’t think it stays on forever. It draws power from same source as the mirror and probably the dome lights.

This morning, I was unable to detect the dash cam on wi-if while standing outside of the vehicle. Once I opened the door and lights went on, was able to pick it up again.

I don’t think you need to worry about draining the battery.

Dash cam stayed on for 10 minutes after closing car door and leaving vehicle. Red light on side of unit stayed on as well.

Triangle hazard dashboard switch, gear shift light, and headlight switch remained illuminated the whole 10 minutes as well.

No need to worry about draining battery, in my opinion.

This is what the Ace2 does. Taken from the User Manual,

The ACE 2 monitors its own power requirement in parking mode. After it has consumed a defined quantity of power, the radar system will be disabled and the car will only be monitored by the G sensor. The G sensor monitoring will also be disabled after a further defined quantity of power has been consumed, meaning that the ACE 2 will be shut down. This prevents the car's battery becoming drained so that the car can still be started.
The energy consumption and therefore the duration of possible monitoring depends on the activity of the ACE 2 in parking mode and on the condition of your car battery.
Please check the condition of your battery.
