Blacked out dials scratches

I've got the model which has blacked out dials. And i can see a lot of hairline scratches all over. Only noticeable under direct sunlight. Looks damn ugly. Is this common?

Not common. I thought the instrument cluster cover was the part of car that was least likely to be touched/scratched.

I thought the same but this version does not have a glass/plastic cover as seen in the other versions. I feel it's the black coating that is prone to scratches even if wiped with good cloth.

Yep. Mine also got tiny scratches, after a simple cloth wipe... Same for the black rooftop rails.

Yes, it’s common. The anti-reflective plastic used for gauge covers is very easily scratched. I try not to touch it at all, but if it needs to be cleaned or dusted, I use a very soft eyeglass cleaning cloth. If you can’t live with it, a plastic polish like Meguiars PlastX may help a little, but I’d be very cautious and test in a small area to make sure you’re not making it worse.

Would PlastX work on this? Or will it peel of the black coat?

I have the same black panel and I think it’s a clear plastic on top, but regardless, PlastX is pretty mild and I don’t think would remove a coating, if there is one. However, the gauge cluster plastic is likely pretty soft, which is why it scratches so easily, so you’d have to be very careful indeed to avoid making it worse. Googling “Plastx gauge cluster” gave some results with good tips on how to go about it.

Use soft materiaal, in the most wipes is added wood. Wood could made scratches.

I have the same problem, it's hideous and I hate looking at it, i can't imagine the clear plastic is too much work to remove and if not may be worth polishing it and adding a clear coating of some sort to give it some protection.

Does the x1 share the same cluster with any other models? If so maybe they have a better glass / plastic window?

I bought "custom cut" PPF from taobao to cover the scratches on the dials. Look ok now.

Translation
Hi, I use sonax glossy plastic and rubber care for it.
It will not stay matte, it will be shiny but at least the scratch will not be visible.

Best tip is never wipe these surfaces with cloth (even glass cleaning cloths). Use car detailing putty to dab and lift then dust, this eliminates risk of micro-stratches.
