HUD color option? Weather display?

A couple things dawned upon me today... First I thought that at one point I had news/weather/twitter? as an option to display on my idrive when I first got the car... but today I can't find the option and there is no weather display on my idrive. Did something change or isn't working? For kicks and giggles I just updated and relogged into my BMW connected account on my phone in case it had something to do with it.. so we'll see when I get off work if anything changes. I have not had my car into the dealer since the turbo recall and I thought I had retained the weather/news function until just recently. I know there is OTA updates since I had that one series of nav update prompts and to reset a few times a little bit back where I posted a thread about it.

Second thought.. the other night I had to take the wife's X1 and her HUD lighting is orange .. I "believe" it changes from white in the day to orange at night. The orange at night is certainly way easier on the eyes.. in these winter months I've even gone to my idrive and turned the brightness down when I'm heading into the pitch black areas. There does not seem to be any function or option for me to change this.. has someone been able to change this at all, or is there a menu combination I'm missing?

You can definitely change the brightness in the HUD. My CA set up a toggle on the presets that takes you to the menu under My Vehicle, iDrive, Displays, Heads -Up will let you adjust brightness, nothing on the color

As an aside I haven't gotten any OTA updates for my Navigation.

Hey that's kind of a good call on the shortcut.. I might have to do that. I guess I'm okay with scrolling through the menu's when I get to that remote dark area.

November I got a slew of these navigation reset update messages.. hasn't popped up since.

On another side note I googled BMW weather on idrive and it seems that in the past many people have had it come on/off depending if bmwonline is having trouble with their servers. It has sporadically come back on/off whether it's OTA updates or service problems. Guess I can't do a thing about it, and it'll show up when it shows up again...

I'd be happy if you could get CarPlay supplied navigation in the HUD

IIRC, the HUD responds to the dimmer knob next to the headlight switch, as well as iDrive. They interact, so you have to fiddle with them both to get the best baseline for your liking. Then spin the dial when the spirit moves you.

same issue here. The news under bmw apps in the ConnectedDrive section has disappeared. It was a sad sad and long 2hr drive home with no trumpy and trudy news.

Also miss the web radio from the old ConnectedDrive app..

so I hopped in the car to drive home right after I responded to your past and surprise Navigation asked to update. I guess BMW is monitoring these forums and realized I was on to their game about updates

No kidding.. BMW must be listening.. when I left late yesterday from work my weather popped up again! I clicked into the connected drive portion (where the picture shows my weather) and it had only a couple of options.. which I think was weather and then news. This morning I clicked on it again and there's a ton of options.. flickr, wiki something.. news, alexa, weather.. maybe something else that I can't remember.

I think I got another Nav update last night, the message was do you want to use the new data now or later so I said now and Nav restarted. I am getting more paranoid than usual

Yeah if you saw my other thread it was like 3 or 4 times within a couple of days which got me doubting if there's something wrong. I called the dealership and they never called me back as promised... but the updates stopped coming/warning me for a restart. So.. hopefully you don't have as many pushes and they have figured it out.

now have had 5 updates, On the plus side I reset the toggle based on this thread, it got blown out when I did some coding and never got around to putting it back. It will be helpful at night when I think it is too bright to turn it down

As //TMNT suggested.. I do now use the dimmer knob. Totally bypassed my mind using that. Although I think if it changed to orange it would have solved the problem. When it switches from "day mode" to "night mode" the only thing that changes/turns off is the illumination of the actual needles in the cluster. I don't even think the rest of it dims at all. Kind of.. maybe a bad design. I'm 99.9% sure the wife's X1 changes from white to orange.
