Another Tire sizing question

If you use the calculator at the top of this forum the actual optimum setup for 8.5/9.5 seems to be 235/275 yet no one seems to use this. Any Idea why? everyone either goes 245/275 or 235/265.

I think I remember reading a post where someone went with 275 rears and 235 fronts and it was making his traction control kick in. Has anyone else experienced this?

I've been advised by 2 tire and wheel vendors to avoid going to a 275 in the rear due to fitment problems and rubbing.

Good question - the 235/275
tires are the exact same diameter. the other combos are not.

Yep the 245 are a lot larger but everyone who does 275 rear puts 245 on front. The 235/275 setup increases diameter front and rear almost exactly. And in the rear I understand using the 265with the M3 offsets but normally I would think 275 would be optimum. If someone has experience to the contrary please let me know.

The story I've always gotten from long time BMW "gurus" is the you don't want to exceed a 30MM stagger between the front and rear or risk messing with the handling dynamics of the car. A 30MM stagger is what BMW normally uses on it's staggered setup regardless of the size of the tires.

It's the same reason why they don't recommend going with a 30MM stagger then adding spacers.

Should I send back the 235s to get 245s since I am running 275s in the rear? Or do you all think I wont be able to tell the difference in handling?

crap... im running 235/35 and 265/30... 275/30 actually matches up better... uggh

but the 265s were on sale

that is horrible that my rears will be .2 inches smaller than my fronts *sigh*

That makes since maybe it would cause understeer. My main concern is if the 245's larger diameter will have any ill effects. The tire I really want to go with Michelin PS All Season which are only available in 245/275. If I use 235/275 or 235/265 I will have to switch to PS2 which is not a bad deal I just would like to use the A/S to keep from having to do a winter setup also.

Either 245/275 or 235/265 will work fine. I ran 235/265 on the E90 and I'm running 245/275 on the M3. I like the feel of the 245/275 setup better.

You may notice more understeer then normal running 235/275. I would change the 235's to 245's if they weren't mounted already.
