Automatic transmission oil change
Can AT oil be changed at home? Do I need some special equipment? Or just drain plug (out), fillin the oil, measure the temp using some diagnostics and thats it? (F48, 8 gear AISIN AT)

Would also be interested in knowing if anyone has done this at home. On our Volvo's and Nissan's I'd just drain, fill, disconnect one of trans cooler hoses, turn on the vehicle and let it pump out the fluid until it stopped. Turned vehicle off, refill and repeat process until the clean fluid started pumping out.

Based on my research I decided to do it on my own. Just ordered the fluid.

I have done this recently but with "washings". Each time i had opened the drain i have got 3 liters out the gearbox. So i put 3 liters of new fluid, ran the vehicle into every gear then drained again. Repeated three times and this was my result (see picture).
1st - factory fluid (2017 car, changed 2023 with aprox 40k km) 2nd - first washing 3rd - second washing 4rd - third washing 5th - new fluid for comparison will do it again but one 3L change in one year. |

curcino would you mind describing the last step? did you just fill the fluid, wait for 40°, shift through each gear, fill again, take out the overflow plug and thats it? I just do not understand one of the last steps in the official workshop manual “Top up automatic transmission fluid until it flows over.”
also how is the transmission after the change? is shifting smoother? everything alright? |

the engine temp is not the same as gearbox temp. keep it in mind. Since i had no leaks and measured with a flask in every change and put back exactly the same ammount the gearbox let out i had no need to do the last step for measurements. i also added a lubegard platinum additive. it helps the oil to produce less foam. and yes after changing the fluid the difference is notable. very smooth gear changes and the feeling that i will not service the gearbox about failures in a long time. |

Autotransmission Getrac 7DCT300
Sorry for the use of original post but the matter is almost the same !
I am trying to discover for sure if this gearbox is meant to keep the filters when you change the oil if you don't open it up ? Seems the two filter I can find are both inside the carcass... My car as almost 170k and from what I can see in the menu, it has always been serviced in the dealer with no mention on that oil change!! cheers |

Thank you for your reply.
Yes, I can understand that... But the thing is, in this specific gearbox Getrag 7DCT300 does the filters lay inside the box ? I can see they are two distinct filters... |
