I spent 3 years in an x1 before buying my x2 m35i almost 2 years ago now.

The x1 definitely has more height for large things, I fit a full-size futon in it.
The x2 has a smaller opening and limited height but I’ve loaded a vanity before.

I went with x2 because of m35i option.

That's a good question for the people who implemented the technology. I also understand it's not refined the way some of us would like as it takes time. Eventually one day it should be able to identify when it's going thru a drive thru. I also understand some people are incapable of going thru a drive thru without hitting something and in my opinion those people probably shouldn't be driving in the first place! 😀

I have a 340 in addition to my X1 and the same thing holds with the technology. So as pointed out this is the nature of the technology to date. One day AI will know.

This has been a great read for me. I have an e84 x1 (more of a hatchback/wagon look then an SUV). Been contemplating getting a newer/CPO x1 or an x2. Leaning toward the x2 now since I am not going to be carting much stuff and I like the looks of the x2 better.

This will help me to look at both cars with a critical eye. I have a 535i and my e84 is a 3.5, so driving a 4 cylinder may be tough and CPO'd 3.5s are hard to come by.

Thanks for the eye opener.

My previous daily was an e60 modded with the n54. Although it certainly would pull away on the highway, the m35i is a real hoot and quick for a good chunk of the speedometer. I decided that stock form it was not too bad... The only thing that really feels different is the fwd bias which makes it very different in driving experience.

We sat in and drove both. Wife hated sitting in and driving the X2, she felt it felt cramped like a GLA and had concerns with space with our baby on the way. I preferred the sportier look of the X2. So we ended up in a happy medium of the X1 Msport in Estoril Blue.
