I think it's a formality at this point. Mercedes might not have the most competitive car on the grid, but they have the most reliable package. It seems to me like Ferrari's woes are a result of pushing the PU a bit too much and hard and the way Mercedes is progressing, I think it's only a matter of time before they leap Ferrari as the #2 constructor this year.

What could have been for Ferrari this year is slowly turning into a bit of a nightmare.

Great race today, but I have some concerns. First, I'm gutted for Sainz, he was doing so well in the race and Ferrari reliability got to him. Charles PU had been changed back in Canada so he need not worry, but now they see the life expectancy limits.

As far as the Marshalls reaction, such a poor show and lack of urgency. Sainz car was on fire and what you saw was a Marshall running away from a fire extinguisher, another trying to wrestle a tire and three others standing up top by the ambulance… it was ridiculous to say the least but glad Sainz was unscathed.

Russell, what can I say, I thought it was a dirty move given Checo was ahead and past him. He learned well from Ham it seems on RBs taking the outside. Resets my respect for him and lost big driver points in my book. Checo was a solid 3rd place today without question, given Sainz situation.

Ferrari had crazy race pace throughout, Charles was catching Max like nothing, cutting over a second per lap is an eternity in F1. Medium tires were more manageable for Max and given 1 more lap, he could have possibly challenged for 1st. Great race for Charles he's a good driver and I look forward to Max and LeClerc battle on the oncoming half of the season.

I don't see it as a dirty move - it's just racing. All these incidents that involve tire touching it's really just racing. It doesn't matter who it is - which team or driver, these are things that happen when cars are that close to each other. It's really unfortunate but unless someone purposely points their car into another, these are incidents in a race of mere inches. If RUS backs out and slows down to avoid PER, who's to say he doesn't cause another incident with the driver behind him in that turn? In that situation, RUS is damned if he does, damned if he doesn't. He got the 5 second penalty so sure "it's his fault" but I can't go as far to say I lost respect for him or any driver - s**t literally just happens.

I don't know, that's how I see it. I think I would be more upset with VET reversing back onto the grid and potentially causing an accident than something that happens when it's strictly racing.

Mind you I take back some of what I said about the marshal my friend, they have no fire protection clothing like the drivers.

Respect your opinion, we can agree to disagree. I know racing incidents happen, it's just how I see it plus the fact I don't like Merc helps my bias lol.

RUS got a penalty for it, so the stewards/FIA thought he was to blame.

Not arguing it - if FIA/stewards put the fault on a driver it's the drivers fault but from the perspective of it all, I'm not going to take the blame as the driver doing it intentionally where I'm going to call them a dirty driver. Stuff happens when you're going at that speed and in close contact with others cars. Everyone is racing but no one is blatantly trying to ruin another drivers race.

Looks at those three at the top (you can see their feet): looks like they are just standing there watching the car on fire.

And the one rushing with an extinguisher, dropping it and running away. What was that supposed to be ? And the one with extinguisher near the car gave priority to blocking the car while Sainz got more and more engulfed with flames.

Looks like some safety protocols need to be revised.

Good point but without fire proofs they may have feared an explosion and kept away, I agree that the marshall trying to put a chock under the wheel should have activated the extinguisher first.

The track side marshal is at the wrong end of the car. I haven't watched the race yet but did the marshal eventually use his fire extinguisher?

AFAIK, based on the footage made available, the marshal with extinguisher near Sainz only used it *after* Sainz had already left the cockpit. Extinguisher should have been used straightaway to avoid the fire and smoke engulfing Sainz.

Smoke inhalation and carbon monoxide can very quickly overwhelm a driver, not to mention damage his lungs, and the driver will lose consciousness. Surely F1 cars are equipped with onboard fire suppression systems? Put the fire out quickly or immediately and most of the risks to the driver vanish. I'm thinking this incident will be investigated. The track side marshal seems to have been slow based on the photos. Just my two cents..
