So I am looking for a "comfy and lightweight office chair for my home office". Nothing overly expensive. Our new house is nearly complete and I am going with all new furniture.

I just picked up a Ikea Markus. It is regularly one of the top reviewed bargain office chairs. It is very comfortable and its only $200. The seat bottom is firm and built in lumbar so you have support for long seating times. Go try one out at your local Ikea store.

I have a Herman Miller Aeron chair at home. It's okay, the mesh is nice for the hotter days. The chair I have at work is a Steelcase Leap. I prefer it over the Herman Miller.

I don't know what chair you should get, however I recently replaced my office chair and all I can say is if you spend any significant amount of time sitting at the desk get a mesh chair. OMG changed my life! It's like having cooled seats. I just got a cheapo one from staples. I think its this one, however was much cheaper at the time.

Based on my initial research and reviews and what is aesthetically pleasing, the Gesture and Steelcase will be considered. Was trying to keep it under $600. But, considering the "significance" of this furniture, I may drop the grand.
Thanks and more opinions are welcome. I have a couple of weeks to decide...

My wife talked me into a leather chair from Ethan Allen. I don't remember exactly what it cost but it was well worth it. Very comfortable and high quality. I'll probably have it forever.

I have both the Aeron Chair (http://store.hermanmiller.com/Products/Aeron-Chair) and the Caper Chair (http://store.hermanmiller.com/Produc...ipurpose-Chair). Even though it's nearly half the price, for my back, I actually prefer the Caper.

I sat in a ton of chairs before getting new ones for my office a couple years ago. the most comfortable by far was the humanscale freedom w/ the headrest. that said, what's best for you could be different. don't pay list price!

I got 18 years of daily service out of my Aeron. Had to replace the seat ($120) because the frame cracked, but it's now back to 100 percent. I highly recommend it. Whatever you choose, mesh is the way to go.
Do a quick Google search on the name brands (except IKEA), and you can save about half off the suggested retail. |

Agreed. I bought my Herman Miller (practically brand new) from a local office space that was going out of business for a fraction of the retail price.

I used to buy the plush leather type office chairs in the $100-$200 range (probably my first mistake) and kept having to replace them when the padding wore out. I've worked from home for years now so my chairs see a lot of seat time. I finally switched to an all mesh chair and picked up a Workpro Quantum 9000 from Office Depot. It's been 3 years now and it's still comfortable and looks brand new.
So I'd vote +1 for a mesh type of chair that fits your budget.
