Too much brake pedal travel
Hi to all,
Yesterday, I went to my local mechanic who does work on my other BMW's and had the brake fluid changed as part of the regular maintenance schedule on my 2016 X1. Now, there is way too much brake pedal travel before the brakes activate. I called the mechanic back and I am going to see him on Friday to have this adjusted but I am wondering why this would have happened. Thanks for your help. Based on the service performed, I would guess there may be air in the brake line, causing the brake pedal to feel spongy. Your mechanic may need to bleed the lines of any trapped air.

It turns out the brake fluid I purchased was defective even though it was applicable for my car, as stated on the label. He replaced the fluid and now the brakes work fine.
I called the store where I bought the fluid and they will look into this and will also refund the money I spent. |

Was it DOT4? Also bmw recommends low viscosity brake fluid (LV). It should say it somewhere otherwise the dsc may not work as well. |
