2021 X1 - cupholder area no longer has a cover?

Just picked up a new 2021 X1. The cupholder area does not have any kind of sliding cover over it, like I've seen in photos of previous models. Can anyone confirm that in fact it was removed from the 2021s? Thanks.

It's been removed for several years, the 2018 x2 had it, and all the press photos show it, but it left the x2 for the 2019 model year, at least in the US

My car is a 2020 March built (U.K. version) and has this cover included which is sliding over cups area however I keep it open all the time. Perhaps 2021 version is slightly different on this area.

Interesting. I wonder if the cover being included or not varies by region.

Mine is a 2021 and no cover. I assumed it was a regional thing.

It does sound like that! I have a UK LCI X1 xDrive 2.0i M Sport (built 8 Sept 2020) and it has the covers.

Mine is also a 2021 xline, so I am concluding that it must be regional. Posters in this thread from the US (including me) do not have the covers in our X1, while those not in the US seem to have them.

But you may other goodies like power tailgate, front sensors which are interestingly missing here.

We only have two variants.. Diesel or Petrol - features are the same in both.

In 3 years of ownership I never closed mine, so I am not sure it is a loss.

I have no doubt that is true. But I had watched a number of video reviews that had it, so was curious as to its absence.

Agreed, It is also a valuable lesson, BMW quietly changes/deletes options in various markets on a routine basis. So never assume that because you had the car before or know the car well, it will have the same options as standard. Anyone placing an order for a new BMW should take the time and go through every single feature and option and have it confirmed in writing that it will be in the build. The forum regularly has threads of disappointment because something expected to be present was missing, the best example is Carplay. I get the impression BMWusa is the worst culprit, the US X1 used to come with a huge spec as standard but possibly driven by economics, it looks to be shifting to a basic model with everything in the options list. What do US forum members think?

I made an effort to watch US-produced video reviews since I noticed different features in different markets (engine variants being one). Regardless I'm happy with my X1.

I am also happy. However, there are many local variations on the production line, and it is all down to how BMW in the countries concerned market the vehicle. It is not confined to the X1. Just as an example in the USA your can (or could when I ordered) specify "all-season tyres". In the UK it is not an option! I even spoke to BMW UK concerning this and they say the car was not tested in the UK with that tyre specification. Come on BMW UK, pull the other leg.
