Is it leather or not?
Hi,
How can one best tell if their car has leather or leatherette? I thought mine has leather but not 100% sure because it is in very good shape for its age.

its probably vinyl/leatherette
check the stitching areas, real leather will have creases and un-even spots, whereas leatherette will be uniformly even. also, running the VIN number might give you a better idea.

Post a picture, we can tell you for sure. While you can get leather and not have Premium Package (ZPP), you can't have ZPP without leather. So if you have other ZPP features (like auto dimming mirrors inside and out), then you have leather.

X2 on posting a pic. However I'm thinking if you're questioning it it's probably leatherette...

You have leather since it comes standard with the premium package. But the way to tell is to look at the door panels. If the trim on each door has a horizontal stich running the length of it (like the picture below) then you have leather.

Then, as said above, you have leather.

Thanks guys, I'm convinced now since I do have the horizontal seam on the inside door on the level of the door handle as Seminole shows.

Push your finger into it....if it is wrinkled around your finger it is leather. Compare with outside (non seating surface) which is vinyl and you will see what I mean.

Your car has vinyl on your "non seating surfaces"? the sides of mine are definitely leather. The only part of the seats that aren't leather are the hard back inserts.

No, not at all. I've had my covers off and know for sure it's all leather. I will admit that the vinyl BMW uses is good though, but I can promise you that you still wouldn't be able to fool me one way or the other.
