Review of new tyres
Ok, maybe not the most thrilling of topics but….. just had all 4 Bridgestone turanza T004(5??) run flats replaced at 25k on my 2018 Xdrive, with 2.6mm on the fronts and 3.5mm on the rears, remaining. Went for non run flat Michelin Primacy 4’s all round based on noise then grip/wear and mpg last and bmw approved. £697 all in and initial thoughts are these are great. A lot quieter than the Bridgestones, accepting tyres get noisier as they wear, ride comfort is nicer and frankly I’m not bothered if I save or use 0.2 mpg. Garage advised me to tell my insurers I’d gone from run flats to non run flats. Rang LV, my insurer, who said they have the car as having standard tyres already and no change was needed. And they were fitted in 30 minutes which in my experience is a record (shortness of time taken). Took the opportunity to have the tracking checked and corrected ~ it was a little out but now running perfect.

Having lived with Runflats for over 20 years on 3 models, (3 series) it was a breathe of fresh air changing my car to an X1 F48 within the last 6 months.
One of the first things I checked was the tyres, I was so pleased its actually fitted with convential tyres, hooray, No more hard rides, the car absorbs any shocks on the road. the ride is superb, and handling ok.- quite surprised at the handling as it has Bridgestone Turanza T005, 18inch tyres. ( Never favoured Bridgestones previously) Will see how these tyres go as only got 4k miles on them, but I now know I will change to either a Goodyear or Michelin tyre in the future |
