No worries. I used Krylon to do my lower grilles and it turned out perfect. It's a little different with the kidneys though. Proper prep work is key.

I used Krylon for plastics on my lowers. You can use it for the kidneys as well. Just sand them down and follow the DIY. If it chips it's easy enough to touch up.
Btw this will probably get moved to the Cosmetic mod sub-forum.

I understand you're under a bit of a financial crunch, but buying replacements is really not all that expensive, and it's a lot easier (they cost about $70 or so).
Just something to think about.

It's $70 for the set, not each side. :P
Self mod requires some maintenance, too. Not crappin on the idea, mind you, just that there might be other options.

Not a big deal. $140 is for the BMW Performance set, as the OP stated he liked.

Point's probably moot, since he seems comfortable painting. :P

Same here. I've had a few chips driving on the highway, but it's easy enough to touch up. Btw my car looks identical to this except with 230's and NO DUMBO ears, lol.

Use some clear coat over top of what you paint. I used a satin clear, to help keep them from chipping.
And BTW... i have a great job, and still painted mine.

Who knows OP could've been given his bimmer as a graduation gift. Still doesn't mean he has any $$ to blow on mods, especially being in college. $10 self mod does the job just fine. You do realize the $70+ ones you buy from the vendors are usually "painted" as well right? Still prone to the same chipping, fading, etc. Plenty of people on the forum have painted their grilles and they've held up fine.
