Headlights! Gadzooks!

Hi.

So I spent the last hour mucking around with my Headlights, switches, Bimmercode, what-have-you.

I really like the idea having the OFF position truly off, meaning no headlights/no tailights/no DRLs on. Gangster like. Privacy like.

However, I know I can toggle DRL rear always on or not. Cool. And I know I can toggle DRL front always on or not.

I ** WISH ** there was a way to turn off the DRLs in OFF mode. Like a separate way to do it, but I know that I cannot.

And in AUTO mode, if I turn the DRLs in code off, then technically it is against the law in daylight here in Illinois. Yuck!

So nonetheless, I have DRL Front/Rear turned on.

But that's not the point of this Email. The rant that is.

The X2 M35i has LED headlights. Low/High Beams share the outer projectors.

So what the hell is the inner projectors used for? Nothing?! Because of the LED option? I mean, I tried everything and nada, it appears non functional.

Any ideas? Picture attached, highlighted Green what I am talking about!

Thanks for listening!

That’s right, it has no use other than aesthetics.

I haven't checked on mine, but on my previous E90, the inner lights were used for the cornering lights only.

Is that the same on the X2, or are the foggies used as cornering lights?

Actually I think the corner lights are integrated and separate from fogs

Corning lamps on the x2 are integrated into the headlamps. Visible in the photo above, left edge of the green circle.

I haven't had the chance to "look at it in a mirror" to see what lights do and do not light up. On my e60 that inner corner was for cornering/turning and signalling. Also when you throw it in reverse it'll light up. I coded the car to turn on the door handle lights when backing up too because it sounded like a neat option so that people see it reversing. If anyone figures it out I'd love to know.. or if they are just for show... seems a little weird though.

Fogs are cornering lights on the X2 M35i. The thingy you said doesn't light up, however if the headlights move the beam toward it then yes it could indeed reflect it.
