Canada/US 2019-2 WAY Update via ConnectedDrive
Did anyone in Canada or US recently get an automatic 2019-2 WAY map update via ConnectedDrive over-the-air LTE?
In March, I manually updated to 2019-1 WAY (bought on eBay) via USB because ConnectedDrive said the existing map was too old to update OTA. I don't regularly check on the map version, but today there was a message on the HU that Navigation needed to restart. I was a bit worried and checked that there were no error notifications, then by chance looked in the Navigation settings to find that it is 2019-2 WAY. Maybe the restart was after it updated to 2019-2. Is that the way it is supposed to happen? Don't get me wrong ... I am glad to get the update that I paid for . |

Hi MJE60,
Yes. I think the 2019-2 OTA update is only a "delta" to the 2019-1 maps. A full download would involve Gigs of data and be slow/expensive over LTE. For me, the map region is set to Canada & Alaska, which is fine given 99.9% of my driving is local. I would have preferred if BMW had a nicer way to inform me, instead of just saying that the system had to restart. |

There are a number of 3rd-party people who you can buy full map downloads for US$40-60. I bought 2019-1 WAY from eBay and it updated to 2019-2 WAY OTA with my BMW subscription. You can search on Google, eBay, Kijiji, but make sure it is the correct map for your Navigation unit that matches your VIN. Some sites I found: https://bimmer-unlock.com/collections/bmw-map-data http://www.bimmermap.com/ |
