Permanently turn off start/stop feature

Does anyone know how I can permanently turn off the start/stop feature so I don't have to turn it off each time I start the car? Do I have to take it to the dealer to turn it off?

The EPA won't allow us to code it anymore, at least that's what I'm told, but it can be done 3rd party

What on earth are you talking about? The EPA does no such thing, manufacturers have decided that they want every ounce of MPG they can get which is why they tend to not have it be sticky with shutting off the vehicle.

However it's easy to code with any of the 3rd party coding apps as described in this thread an a bazillion others.

As already answered, it is an easy option using Bimmercode app and an obd dongle. I would however recommend that instead of turning permanently off you instead choose the option “remember last setting”. Using the remember setting allows you to turn stop/start off and it will stay off unless you turn it back on. If you turn it off using Bimmercode then it will no longer be available, I.e. the button will no longer work..

That's what my service manager and BMW NA rep told me, US Gov has dictated that we have to have the shut off feature on by default

That is how I coded my E92 M3. worked well until I imported it to Canada and the dealer wiped out my coding and turned it to "default off". Another coding job and I was happy again.

If the manufacturer sets the vehicle up to remember the last setting, they do not get the full mpg benefit in their ratings. It must default to "on" for them to credit the full benefit in mpg. So the government doesn't say you have to have it default to "on" but they incentive the car manufacturers to do it that way.
