First time BMW owner here. My dealer charges $140 for engine air filter and even more for cabin air filter. Do people here really pay that much for the filter changes?

I bought parts and did the work myself. Cabin filter was pain but engine air filter took me 5 min.

They charged me 35 for the labor for the cabin filter. I provided the filter. But at another dealership, they quoted me 200 for cabin filter and installation. Anyone that really wants to get work done at the dealership makes sure you shop around you can be surprised at the price difference.

I needed to do a brake fluid flush called 3 different dealers around me. I was quoted 235 and another att 375 finally the third one told me they can do it for 115. That was cheaper than the indy.

Yeah that's a total rip off. Air filter is pretty easy. Cabin is not too hard just a pain in the behind to do.

Just replaced my cabin filters. Took 15 minutes. Two 8mm nuts to get the upper panel out and then 1 T20 Torx screw to remove the side panel. Someone mentioned to use a needle-nose plier to grab the old filters and yank them out. No need to worry about not damaging the old ones but the pliers are a good idea. The filters are a tight fit and the filters are flexible so you'll just have to push and shove them in. First one in drops to the lower position easily. But it then blocks up to 1/3 of the window for the other filter to fit into. You'll have to finesse it in while trying not to crush it. This all wouldn't be too hard if you could fit yourself under the dash and see what you were doing! Putting the covers back requires aligning the tabs properly so that the screw holes will line up and that's it -$200 saved.
