Anyone else thinking long term, or were just late to the party?
Did you have to put down a deposit for a #18 slot?

Thanks.

Spot #18?!

The US has ~340 dealers. So if the US gets 1 000 cars per year that is still just 3 cars per dealer. Obviously some dealers will get more and some less. But waiting at #18 seems risky.

STBMW tends to get more allocations than others because of the number of M cars they move a year. Based on my planned timing, the refundable deposit, the dealer reputation, and the pricing confirmation I got in writing, the overall risk was minimal to me.

Derp.. they're already taking reservations for 2017?
Crap.. And here I thought it'd be simple to get a November delivery.
Guess I'll go put my name on a list and see what happens.

Way down on my list but since I don't want it till May of 2017, CA told me I won't have a problem. Informed me that when the M3/M4 came out, a long wait list was there as well and only approx 1/3 actually picked up their cars.

I guess when you really think about it, only a die hard M2 fan would wait on a list for over a year to order their car. Add to the fact of a easily refundable deposit and I can see why the attrition rate is very high.

My dealer is one of the bigger spots in Philadelphia and he only has 5 on his list, so I am sure there are cars to be found especially in smaller markets if people are willing to travel a bit. Think the "I cannot find a car" despair is a bit overstated.

Did you lock in MSRP or any discounts by then? IIRC that guy did some good discounts on F80/F84 ED deliveries. I'd guess if you want to wait 1+ years you shouldn't be paying MSRP by then.

I will probably wait for a MY 2018 after the LCI by then there shouldn't many waiting list and I should be able to get the car below MSRP. In case there is a CSL version we will probably have a better idea by mid-2017.

I didn't lock in any pricing. I've worked with David enough now I trust him to give the best deal he can. He'd never charge more than ED MSRP.

My lease on the M235 will be up in June 2017
I am planning ED for either an M2 or M3 around May 2016 or so..

Are you telling me that I need to get an allocation now? and that the best I can hope for is ED MSRP? Are you guys serious? I thought the market would have normalized by then for the M2's

Not at all. As others have said, you can get into an M2 within the next few months if you put some work in and call dealerships all around the US. The only reason I am where I am on the list is because a) I prefer to deal with David at STBMW and b) my plan was to always buy the M2 in 2017 as a MY 2018

Personally I'm trying to get a 2016 but wouldn't mind a 2017. Losing a year of free maintenance sucks, but its not that big a deal. I'm on a few LA dealerships lists and the wait seems long, but id imagine LA dealers will get a lot of allocations. In can't see 2017 being better than 2016 since I'd imagine there will be few changes.

Anyone know when 2017 would begin production? I'm guessing August 2016 or so?

Are you sure MY2018 will get LCI? I thought it was MY2017?

I might get an M2 after the lease is up on the M4, if I do it will be an LCI model

+1. July 2017 isn't that far away.

yeah , i mean i'd absolutely prefer a 2016. the brakes really suck too, i mean this is a car you'd probably drive in a way that brakes would need to be changed.

even in my 328 a car i never have driven on a track, i've had both rear and front pads changed before 35k miles

I have 47k miles on my original brakes though. Prob will need replacement at 50k. BMW won't replace until needed.

I'm planning to do an ED around Q1 next year. My dealer told me that mine would be a 2017 and it's still too early to order since they don't have any allocation for 2017 yet.

UK March 2017 delivery here, largely due to being late to the party and only ordering a couple of weeks ago.

Works for me though, there are bound to be a few build changes by then, and I get another year to track my current car and save up a few thousand £ as extra deposit.
