When I check in mine, there is a kind of hidden space toward the bumper. The height of that little extra space is not that much, but I believe a 135 wheel should fit. I measured the length of the space, it was about 27". Our wheel diameter is 27" too. By curiosity, do you have stock tires? 255/50/18 seems to be bigger than OE size. |

Ok, my mistake. You’re right, there’s a depression along the bumper. Dummy me didn’t notice it. My spare Now fits. I also purchased the styrofoam tray but that wouldn’t fit deep enough into the tire so I had to cut away parts of the bottom of the tray to get it to fit Now all I need is a jack. Which jacks are you all using? Does the jack have a fitting for the rectangular recess of the car’s jacking point? |

Post #86 someone showed the picture of the harbor freight jack and that it fits in his X1 jack point. |

Thanks for that info. The styrofoam tray I have has slots in it for tools but not for the scissor jack. It appears to be for the other jack that has a flat lifting surface. Anyone know which one that is?

Thanks. English is not my main language.
About the jack, perhaps you are refering to the BMW OE part. This one maybe: https://www.ecstuning.com/b-genuine-...k/71126885765/ |

My problem is that I have the styrofoam tray as seen below and I want to be able to insert the jack into the tray to save space. The scissor jack will have to be mounted elsewhere in the trunk, taking up extra space. Unfortunately, #3, the jack below, has no model number Last edited by BillK; 10-14-2020 at 08:06 PM.. I see what you mean now.
It's pretty confusing because the part# 71126885765 that I gave the link in my last post is shown sometime like the #5 in these 2 links: https://parts.bmwofsouthatlanta.com/...ck-71126885765 https://www.carid.com/mini-oe/jack-m...ml?view=102194 Is it what you are looking for? |

I did a search on Ebay, the jack seems to be for older model.

By the way, the tire that I got fits very tight and snug in the trunk. I don’t think that extra bracket 8 is required at all I did secure it with the wingnut

The "articulated" jack (#3) is nice and compact, just be cautious with it. If there is any side force, soft earth, or vehicle movement on it, the jack has little or no leverage to resist, and the car can come down hard. Properly used, it's fine.
A scissors jack (such as #4), particularly ones with the rotating lug on top so you can position it optimally to the situation, offers more integrity. But the same warnings apply! |

I'll aim for the #4 as I still have to buy a jack. |

Well I just tried it and unfortunately, it will not clear the massive front calipers However, it will go in the rear no problem.
One of two options that I see. Either get a full size spare 18 or 19" but lose a chunk of cargo area. Or stick with this spare and hope the fronts don't have a puncture or, otherwise, put the spare in the rear and use the rear wheel for the front temporarily, 2x the work. Dammit

Well that's good to know.. I could certainly live with moving the tire around, afterall it's still an emergency that you need a tire vs just waiting for a tow. The full size just really kills the trunk space completely with the width and I'm unsure how well secured it would be in the trunk.

Diameter. Caliper is just too big. I'll just keep this and move the tires around if I get a front flat.
