coded my car this afternoon

BimmerCode for IOS
iPhone 5s
Veepeak OBDCheck BLE (the cheap one)

didn't go crazy

ASD off
ASS Memory (cue jokes)
DRL for rear lights on (haven't checked it yet)
Tire pressure and temperature (why this isn't automatic is beyond me)
Volume Pop-UP off
Fold/Unfold mirrors on lock/unlock (I like this and did it in my 335)
Display full text messages on - DID NOT WORK

Not sure why, I use an Android phone and do not have carplay activated

otherwise very happy I was somewhat methodical, went to the website, ran through all the basic coding options (yes I am chicken to get into advanced for now), set up a spreadsheet that has description, which ECU, old value, new value if it can only be restored through back up and what it did when I coded.

kept the car running, as I coded each module (3 total) the app told me to restart the car each time so I did. Turned of WiFi on the iPhone, turned off my phone so nothing was connected to the car except the OBDII dongle. I should also point out this was an old iPhone that I have repurposed as my coding phone, no cell service and this is the first time I have really used an IOS device. I had to set up an Apple ID (i feel like I cheated on Android ) Also being an old guy and mildly paranoid I got an iTunes gift card to load the App Store.
I too was a little worried when I coded the Body Domain Controller BDC_1 and all these error messages came on, a quick restart cleared them all. Also another pro tip when you muck around with the IDRIVE, you lose your preset buttons (the 8 real buttons below the screen) and need to be re-set-up (I only had 2 and 1 was a phone number so for me no big deal)

so there you have it. When I did m,y 335 I found a friend on the forums (shout out to Almaretto) who basically logged into my laptop and ran the the coding for me with an esys cable etc. this was much easier and I did it my self

Thanks to those who post their experience and provided tips.

Roundermanm did you keep the engine actually running? I thought the instructions for BC said just to keep ignition on..

I'm also a little paranoid so would like to pay by Itunes gift card! But I couldn't see the option come up when I went through the app... Do you recall where that option comes up? IIRC, it only presented me with the option of Credit Card or Paypal

many thanks

cheers

Has anyone gotten any flak from your dealer's service department for using one of the code tools?

iTunes card

I was at Target, bought a 50 dollar card, redeemed it in the app store and it ended up in my account, did the remdemption on a computer, then bought the app on the dedicated phone. my first ever purchase of an app on any system.

I left the car running for coding, reading the FAQs I think that's where I saw you could leave the car running, ASS off of course

Finally bit the bullet and did some coding this morning!

Followed Bimmercode's instructions to just have the engine on 'ignition' and not actually running. Kept the car on a battery charger.

Though strangely, once or twice my car seemed to switch off ignition by itself, back to whatever the other state is called "accessories" maybe? That would then disconnect the process partway...

Eventually managed to get a continuous connection (using the BLE Bluetooth one). Then coded the Drive position memory, auto stop/start memory, seat heat memory (but only found the driver's seat ECU, not passenger's), and rear tail lights with DRL

Did each coding separately, even those that were within Body Control Module.

I'd like to try adjusting the farside mirror tilt angle as it's currently dropping too low when I reverse...

I think it was the first module on the list for me. Can't remember the name right now.

it has its own section called active sound design. if you go to the bimmercode web page plug in your car it tells you what can be coded in basic model it is the second one on the list.

Was anyone else unable to find the driver or passenger seat 'module' when coding? I could only find the driver seat (right hand drive car), but not the passenger, so could not code the seat heating memory for the passenger.

Bimmercode support just said that maybe there was no module for passenger seat. Surprising...

I *thought* that the seats were merely FRONT and REAR for seats .. I don't think it specified passenger or driver's. It was all on one list for me. Heck, I'm pretty sure even the rear seats aren't heated anyways...

hi, the Bimmercode online manual says separate driver and passenger front seat modules. IIRC there's also a separate one for the rear seat (which does not have heating at least in Australian market).

It was good being able to code the driver's seat to remember the seat heating selection... Wish I could do the same for passenger seat.

cheers

Hey Roger, do you know if it'll allow you to use the rear DRL as turn signals?

Just got my Veepeak OBDCheck BLE OBD2 and Bimmercode...

You HAVE to purchase Bimmercode to actually do any coding, otherwise you're just sitting in the car looking at what can be modified.

I coded mine to do the following...some just to mess around and other because I am OCD and has made it worth it already.

It was beyond easy to do

1. Download and purchase Bimmercode Full

2. Set your iOS / Android device to airplane mode and only enable bluetooth. I used an iPad Air and put my iPhone in Airplane mode to avoid any interference.

3. Turn your BMW into accessory mode and plug OBD scan tool in

4. DO NOT find your OBD scan tool on your device, just need to plug it into the OBD port of your BMW

5. Launch Bimmercode and choose connect, it will ask you to find the car you're coding and it will automatically connect to your vehicle.

6. Choose any of the available modules to modify, choose "Code" at the top right of the app and mod away!

Fun mods:

1. Changed iDrive intro to ///M
2. Changed Instrument Panel logo to ///M Performance
3. Changed ringtone to BMW i
4. Changed startup chime to BMW i
5. Sport displays changed from "orange" to "red"....looks much nicer
6. Enabled video via USB and no speed lockout

Useful mods:

1. Tailgate can be opened and closed with key fob
2. Reduced delay windows drop or close from 3.5 seconds to 0.5 seconds using keyfob
3. Mirrors fold up when locking with keyfob
4. Car will no longer honk when locking car with engine running, beyond useful feature when running errands and it's very hot or cold outdoors and you don't want to draw attention.
5. Removed warning disclaimer when iDrive starts up and goes straight to home screen
6. Rear LED light up with DRL....WHY IS THIS NOT A DEFAULT FEATURE?!!
7. Fog lights stay on with high beams enabled
8. Rearview camera warning disabled
9. Startup volume for music is set to 50%, default is 25% and just reduces the volume increasing I'll be doing since I'm always blasting music
10. Changed default driving mode from Comfort to Eco Pro....I do a lot of highway driving and always change it immediately everyday, just saves me a click. I got 42 MPG on my way to Chicago last month.
11. My BMW will remember the last chosen climate setting, because it's HOT AF right now I love that it will always go straight to MAX AC rather than me having to press it every time I hop into the car
12. Windows continue to roll up/down when opening the door, sometimes I'll shut the car off and roll the windows up as I open the doors and found it annoying that they would stop midway

I spent about an hour doing all this, I did not do this all in one shot, I did one or two coding at a time....shut the car on and off each time and made sure everything ran fine.

Used my friends dongle and phone to code mine.
So it now:
Starts in eco mode (request from wife)
Mirrors lock /unlock from fob by pressing it once.
Rear lights on like DRLs
M performance logo in the instrument cluster
Door handle lights on when reversing
Left mirror dip set to 50% when reversing

So far so good.!

Video Through USB

Has anyone tried to code this feature successfully? I went through the process including updating all the codecs (Xvid, Ogg etc) and video in motion was turned on. Files I converted to different formats didn't show up at all. Everything else music wise plays fine just no video. It did play the audio only of a couple videos.

Any ideas?

Thanks!
