Added a Dash Cam
Just installed a VIOFO 4K Ultra HD Dash Cam (A129 Pro) . Instead of connecting the cam power to the fuse panel or using one of the power outlets, I purchased the Rearmaster OBD Power Cable that connects to the cars OBD port. This gave me the option of powering the dash cam when driving and, with the flick of a switch on this power supply, allowing the cam to continue to operate in parking mode when the car normally goes to "sleep". Toughest part of the installation was reattaching the the A-pillar trim cover. A bit of advice for anyone using a dash cam: don't scrimp on the quality of the memory card. Use a name brand (cough, Samsung Pro, cough) with a high reliability for being overwritten multiple times.
p.s. - Always disconnect the negative battery cable when poking around the cars electricals AND since the A-piller's airbag is inches from your face when running the cam power lead.

Thanks for sharing your setup. I'm running A129 Duo set up via hardwire to fuse box. Cool to know there's an OBD II option. Please keep us posted on your parking mode experience when you can.
I had problems with my dash cam in parking mode with motion detection recording. It would malfunction after the SD card filled up. I tried high quality cards (SanDisk High Endurance and Samsung Pro Endurance), but still had this recurring issue. Ended up using using the continuous recording option as a workaround. I suspect it's some sort of firmware problem. |

The following site (forum) is a valuable resource for people fitting dash cams.

I updated to this version minutes after the cam arrived but have yet to try /change any settings in Parking Mode. I'll watch for any problems.

A little follow up: If you looking for quality 4K video (3840 x 2160P / 30 fps.) recordings, this dash cam is NOT the one to pick. Videos are jerky, over sharpened and grainy. Thinking that it might be caused by an older memory card (128GB Samsung EVO Plus), I replaced it with a new 128GB Samsung PRO Endurance - same poor 4K video result, even with the bitrate set to maximum. Next I updated the dash cams firmware - same poor 4K video result again.
At 2K (2560 x 1440P / 60 fps.) the video quality is near perfect and plays smoothly when viewed later on a monitor, but license plate numbers are pretty much blurred unless both vehicles are stopped. For now, I've turn off all the parking mode settings until I'm confident with the 2K video quality. Later I'll be reviewing the quality of the dash cam videos taken at night in 2K. Overall kinda disappointed with the so-called "Pro" capabilities of this product.

OY VEH!
Mia culpa... The solution for the poor 4K dash cam videos turned out not to be a problem with the Viofo 129 Pro Dash Cam but one with my copy of the VLC Player that I was using to view those 4K recordings *falls onto own sword*. Apparently, my version of the VLC Player does not have the necessary codec required to play these video files and there's no way to add it to its existing ones. The solution for me was to switch to a different software player, MPC Player, and add the K-Lite Basic Codec package. With this new software combo, 4K recorded videos play smoothly although the images still appear to be somewhat over-sharpened/over-processed. However, I'm gonna stick with the 2K recording settings since the image files look better to me upon playback and the file sizes are smaller.
