Yeah I heard almost all the cars on the grid right now are over weight. Only 1 team is on weight iirc but I don't know which team that is.

But I'm pretty sure mechanical and material engineers are responsible for that, Newey is about aero.

Lololol, structural too. But mostly the material guys trying to make things thinner and lighter.

I heard that's why teams are starting to use floor stays so they can make the floor thinner to save weight.

Material science is a sub-discipline of structural. I spent most of my research on metallurgy.

I highly doubt these gentlemen are inventing new materials, they'd probably have to outsource that type of expertise. They're just modifying load paths and alternating materials with lower densities that may only be useful in shear or tension or ductility or etcetcetc

Exactly they're probably trying different patterns of carbon layering to get different strength properties, i.e. manipulating how the car will flex under load, which direction it'll flex etc. This is how flexi wings became a reality and I'm certain it was derived from hockey stick technology where Bauer pioneered their intellsense technology where the stick flexes in different areas depending on how you hold it. This flex could be useful in suspension components.

Or the teams are experimenting on what parts if the car they can get away with having less materials to drop weight.

Cargo jeopardy

F1 will be playing with fire with air cargo limitations with Volga-Dniepr Group’s AirBridgeCargo fleet of Jumbos no longer traveling internationally due to war.

Logistic scheduler may be the most important group for F1 at the moment.

Never know. There will be at least 1 race where a shitshow in 1 turn causes chaos. For crying out loud, Ocon finished P1 last year haha

Would be hyped to see my team on the podium no doubt. Hopefully everyone figures out why the Merc power unit sucks. Even with all their downforce issues it should help a lot.

A. Newey in progress....

Let it come !
Thinner paint and sponsor transfers, drilled through the middle bolts, etc all help to lessen the total sum and the odd gamble with fuel content.

Listen to what Alain Prost and Nico Rosberg discussed a couple of months ago, pointing out experiments with details to make a difference: tires, polish, wider visor, saving helmet paint, etc.

See the section from 24:15 to 30:55

''Always looking for new tricks'' no wonder Prost was known as the Professor keeping them to himself which Senna countered at times with near suicide moves when he couldn't put his '' I go for a gap'' theory which he would never get from Prost,(remembering a heart stopping moment when Prost was nearly forced into a wall by him) leading to the main clashes at the end of the 89/90 seasons.
