I have it on 1/3 of the hood & fenders.....mirrors, headlights, front bumper and rear top bumper(so i doesn't scratch when getting things out of the trunk) I thought about it and then got it. But the front bumper one at the bottom started to crack about 1/2 inch....doesn't bother me a bit as long as it does the job. So far so good. But then again i only drive it Fri-Sun.

I got it because when i had my e46 M3 a rock hit the front of the hood near the kidney grill and chipped 1/4in of my paint and then another 1/8in on the hood near the drivers headlghts. Then a bunch other stuff on the bumper. So it's worth it to me.

Do dealers offer the clear bras, or is everyone doing it through aftermarket solutions?

About how much does the clear bra cost? Do you get it from a tint shop?

The price depends on the shop, and the type of bra they use. It also depends on how much you want to get covered. Mine was ~$700 for Hood, front bumper, fenders, headlights, and mirrors.

I purchased both parts of the BMW-branded clear bra (hood, mirrors AND bumper) when I picked up the car at the Performance Center which also did the installation. According to the BMW brochure, the two parts of the bra were supposed to cover the mirrors, the hood, and the COMPLETE bumper. Through no fault of my dealer or the Performance Center, I discovered that the clear bra parts from Germany covered only the hood and the bottom half of the bumper. No mirror protection was included in the BMW-branded parts nor was there protection for the top half and center third of the bumper. I even have the installation instructions and kit manifests as specified by BMW AG for the clear bra parts and this cleared the Performance Center of any mistakes on their part.

The issue was caused by a misrepresentation of the BMW-branded clear bra in the 1 Series accessories catalog as written by BMW NA. Had I known that the clear bra protection was not complete, I would have never purchased the BMW-branded clear bra. To the credit of the Performance Center, they agreed to completely pay for the replacement of the bra but I still have to execute on this.

I highly advise anyone considering a clear bra to stay away from the BMW-branded parts and that you go aftermarket for complete protection of the front third of your car.

Thanks!
ST

i have ventura shield. Installed by a local tint shop. I haven't had any problems with it. I think it all depends on your installer.

I do not understand this product at all. I am not trying to be difficult.

Personally when i look at a car with clear bra, it looks like a car with 10 to 12 solid extremely deep paint scratches that outline the entire bra. The edges yes, to me are extremely visible.

Now tell me this, why would I PAY money to have my car look like it has 10 to 12 super long scratches put on it, in exchange for not having rock chips.

I'd rather take the free gamble that I might get a few rock chips, touch them up when they happen or even re-paint after every 4 years.

I feel that the lines of the edges look 10 times worse than what a rock chip looks like. Why am I the only one that feels this way?

I was told to treat the clear bra like it wasn't even there. You have to be careful when waxing so it doesn't build up along the edge of the bra.

I just asked the dealer Thurs. The one is Melbourne, FL charges $900 to install on the hood and front bumper. Seems expensive to me.

I just got my car after the ED and am about to give it the Zaino multicoat treatment. Should I do this before or after the clear bra? And I heard the mirrors whistle. Still get mirrors? Anyone know a competent Houston installer? Thanks.

i had the clear bra and tint installed together for $700. cheap for my area. i got a friend discount.

u don't notice it until you're really up close. it actually makes the car look shinnier. i got it because i m on the freeway every weekend so it helps the little rocks on the freeway from chipping my paint.

i agree that it depends on the installer.
