10" Subwoofer with Fiberglass Enclosure
I figured I'd share some pictures for anyone who wants to attempt to build a fiberglass sub enclosure for the X1.

That looks awesome. How hard is it to add the sub to the stock Idrive infotainment. I feel my H/k speakers need a lil more low end but not too much maybe an 8inch.

I replaced all of the speakers with GRS speakers. I got the 2ohm GRS subs for under the seat. I put in a Match plug and play amplifier from bimmertech. Then I used the RCA output from that amp to get the signal for a Kicker mono subwoofer amplifier. That makes it super simple. Then I tuned it with my laptop and was able to control the Kicker amp through the Match amplifier software.

There's so much how to videos on YouTube. I saw how to replace the factory amp on there. Took me about 20-25 minutes to do. Then, it took me about 10 minutes per door to change out those speakers and about 5 minutes to do the dash speaker. I also threw some sound deadening in my doors...oh, and in the fiberglass enclosure.

Are you using the subs under the seats as well?

Greg, great pictures, do you have more pictures between the two steps (see attached)? Did you leave the bracing in, that supports the sub mounting ring? You should have taken a spray foam mold off the finished fiberglass body enclosure (hardest part) and you could have made money building complete sub enclosures off the mold. I watched a could videos, doesn't look to hard. My concern is breaking any clips that hold it all together. Doing this back in the 80's remember always breaking a door retainer clip or it pulling out of the door panel. I watched a video on the dash cover removal, it looks a little tricky, as the guy had to come at it from all angles. I sure like your sub box. |

greg21040 I assume you're using the JBL Stage WS1000 because it's one of the only subs that will fit in that enclosure because of the shallow depth, correct?
I cannot seem to find one here in Belgium, but I could go for a Rockford Fosgate R2SD2-10 (mounting depth 86mm) with a sealed box volume of 0.7 cu. ft. (19.8 Liters). That matches your volume exactly. Max mounting depth should be something like 10cm I assume. Quote:
For the doors, there are two screws in the door handle and one or two at the bottom. Remove the door handle trim by wedging a screwdriver into the notch at the bottom of it. Once the screws are removed, the whole panel comes off if you pull it towards you. Just check where all the clips are located and put them back before you re-install it. Some quick pics here.
