I realize this is an old thread, but it is still very pertinent to current purchase decisions..
The MPPSK performance is awesome. Just super. Well worth the money if performance enhancement were the only consideration. But if you regularly use your MPPSK equipped car in an urban/suburban environment and take advantage of each brief opening around a frustrating, traffic obstructing Corolla, minivan, or Porsche SUV driving soccer mom, the MPPSK excessive racket is guaranteed to make cops look up to spot just who is making that full throttle maneuver. This will get you constant tickets plus escalating insurance premiums. Or alternatively, you could just stay off the gas and off of Sport mode, which negates the reason you got the MPPSK in the first place. In the urban/suburban environment, avoiding the noise makes a MPPSK car effectively slower and a lot less fun than one without the Kit. Choose your poison — tickets or inhibited driving! And I suspect that all that police alerting pop pop pop noise when you lift off the gas is as contrived and artificial as the electronic poser crap piped through an M3/M4’s sound system. I can’t see why a modern electronically fuel injected car should have any unburned fuel passing through to the exhaust system after liftoff to make those pops. |

The only thing I've ever gotten from a cop is a thumbs up. Part of what I love about the MPPSK is it's only obnoxious when I want it to be. I was in a funeral procession with it in sport one time, the deceased was a car guy though.

It's worth the money and you get to keep the warranty. Personally, I love the farts and burbbles. If you don't - just drive in comfort and if you want to hear them, drive in sport (+).

I too would love the "farts and burbbles" if only the driver could COMPLETELY turn it off at will. The 2018 340i MPPSK equipped demo with about 5000 miles on it was still quite a bit louder in Comfort than a regular 3/440 would be even in Sport+.
And it is too bad you can't set the exhaust level independently of the other Sport vs Comfort settings Last edited by Hank B; 03-26-2018 at 09:34 AM.. |

Eco & comfort = valves closed
sport & sport+ = valves open

What's odd is how bmw went away from the valve on the MPE axel back exhaust. Makes no sense. N55 MPE exhaust has valve. The MPE with valve would be a nice intermediate between Stock and msppk. I'm in the minority camp as well In thinking how ridiculous all
The pops and crackles sound. My GT3 with headers high flow cats and muffler bypass doesn't make all these annoying sounds. If bmw wanted to emulate these sounds for whatever reason, should've been more precise and quick (think 675LT) , not a can of marbles. |

Its inherent in BMW motors - My 335 did it with cat back exhaust and even my S1000RR does it -
NO emulation - its the real deal. Its due to how they cut fuel to the motor, the amount of air, etc. etc. The resonators fix that - if you dont mess with the resonators the MPE is only slightly louder then stock with no increase in pops or burbles... The MPPSK removes the resonators and in fact its a straight pipe that bypasses the muffler when the valve is open... Sport and Sport plus.. when your in comfort, etc. the valve directs the exhaust through the muffler - thus why its sounds stock in comfort - no pops or burbles either for that matter. Why they removed the valve on the MPE - no idea if that is the case... i cant see them doing this because it would throw a fault - and BMW will not issue accessories that throw continuous faults.. so not sure but i just doubt it doesnt have the valve since the valve is on the stock muffler. I understand its a BMW choice of how they cut fuel and the amount of air, its just an odd choice. Will be interesting to see how this plays out, if it's a isolated incident or a change by bmw:
MPE snap crackle pop stopped after recent service https://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1495960 The MPE does remove the valve, you have to use a dummy plug. Thats why I say its very odd given the stock exhaust has the valve, as well as the n55 MPE has the valve. Quote:

Tells me the only difference between stock exhaust and MPE is the removal of the valve - thus the slight increase in volume (and lack of crackle pop)..
The amount of crackling and popping is due to many factors - If I adjust my PSI down on my JB4 in fact I get more crackle and poping (loss of power).. if I adjust it TOOO high, i lose it and in fact lose some power... but if I have it dialed in at the sweet spot just the right amount of crackle pop, etc. The moment i add fuel or the weather changes - computer adjusts and its a crap shoot on what I am getting for the day... frustrating -- it will eventually come back once the computer learns. Generally i find the most amount of crackle pop with high timing and lower boost -- vs high boost lower timing.. also better power with higher timing and lower boost... I have done hundreds of logs to confirm this.. Quote:

No. There's only one part number. It's a kit that can't be purchased separately.
