Wandering at highway speed?
Does anyone else notice their X2 wanders when the steering is on-center at speed, such as when cruising on an open highway? Almost like the car is being blown by winds, only there aren't any?
My wife complained about this when she drove it, and now I'm doing some highway driving recently I'm noticing it too. It's not lane keeping, that's off, and it happens regardless of lane position. Basically any time the steering is dead ahead. In turns, or at lower speeds, it isn't there at all. Tire pressure even at 36psi, car is only months old. Just wondering before I bring it up with the dealer. |

Felt It Too
I have an 2019 X2. I felt the same thing. Thought I was nuts until I had my wife drive it too. She felt it. I took it in to the dealer who, of course, could not duplicate it. I drove on the highway today and felt it. It is just a goofy thing. Or I am crazy.

You could not duplicate it with them in the car or they couldn't duplicate it without you in the car?

I drive 24 interstate miles every day and don’t have any problems.

Hmm, thanks. To me it feels like an alignment issue, perhaps one wheel is set to more neutral toe-in.
I'm still scoping it out, but my suspicion is it's an issue in front, and is slightly magnified by the limited-slip front diff. It seems to happen when maintaining speed by very slightly applying power. It's actually pretty subtle, but definitely annoying right now. |

I'm on the highway a good 20+ miles each way and with crappy Boston roads.. I don't really feel this wandering at all. I can feel every rut that they have in the road however... After putting on the wide winter tires (along with them being non runflat) the ride is more "stable".

It's not the car, it's the road. Some cars drive within the grooves of the road (created by heavy trucks). Try driving in the fast lane (where trucks aren't allowed). The middle lanes tend to be the worst.

Update - I brought it in for this, and a couple of other issues. Initially, the dealer waffled about driving to a highway where they could test it. I suggested they just save time, put it on the rack and see where it came out. Which they did, and found it off both front and rear.
The notes say the track angle was off to the right, and that rear camber and both front wheel toe settings were corrected. The car tracks well now, but it seems less planted in turns than before. I get some slippage, not quite understeer but there's some movement that wasn't there before. The roads have been wet so I'll reserve judgement for now. Bottom line, happy it was corrected but a little annoyed the factory adjustment was so far off. Happens, I guess. |
