In the x2 side of the house the 2018s had the cover on the cup holders, the 2019s do not, the tradeoff was that the 2019 now had a USB outlet under the 12v whereas the 2018 with covers did not.
I have an older cupholder with covers I intend to put in to my 2019 when I have some time. BTW the cup holder assembly is the same from 2016 X1 through 2019 and I'm sure 2020 X1's and X2's |

Correct, it's shown in a lot of the 2019 promotional material but is not on the 2019 and up X1 or X2 in most markets, seems to be a cost savings move.

Interesting. Stopped by the dealer yesterday and all of the X1s on the lot had the louvers, regular or sports seats.
Dealer agreed it should be on my car (they did some kind of lookup) and the service adviser ordered the part for me. We'll see how it pans out. SA also told me my Onboard tool kit should have included a screwdriver and the styrofoam block should have been mounted with the Velcro strap at the back of the cargo floor cavity. |

Yes, interesting. Here, I can't find any X1 newer than 2018 that has the sliding covers.
If you get the covers retrofitted, maybe you can find out the part number and price. I won't be able to get them installed for free since my vehicle is clearly not supposed to have them, but if it's an inexpensive retrofit I might consider it. |

This is very strange, because:
A. the dealer agreed with me that my vehicle was supposed to have them. B. all of their promotional photos (most likely 2019/2020 mix) show the louvers. Why a 2019 X1 would both not have the louvers and also not have the USB port is really odd. Where would the USB port for software and media be located? Is this just a part of the vehicle where Regensburg just put in whatever part was on hand? |

Promo pictures are both renders and prototypes, they are also almost always not country specific, so there may be different options for different countries. The USB port is located below the 12V outlet. A car without the USB port addition would most likely still have the covers, and the cars with USB ports usually have no covers. If you want to check this just take a walk around your dealers lot and see, I bet you see a lot of X1 and X2's with no covers but with a USB port since that is the newer change. The USB port AND covers is the rare one that appear to have been a minority and I bet it was as they were changing over the sub component suppliers. |

I think a12v socket is way better than a build-in USB port. You can always plug in a USB adapter you want and it is also upgradable when the standard changes.

In my book I have a lot more need for a USB port there for a flashdrive than I ever would for yet another 12v port I'll never use. |

Another thing I have noticed is the variability in the style of gear shift being used across model years and seemingly even within model years.
Sometimes the X1 has the physical gate shifter, other times the electromechanical shifter where you just push "P" on the top for Park. |

That's not true to the ports for the back seats. Is that USB port a data port?

Not sure about the advantage of an electronic shifter excepts a fancier look. The first time I used it, it took me a while to figure out how to get it into park. I only wish the mechanical shifter a bit shorter. I don't see it's necessary to be that long.
