Why didn't the video just show a C7 stingray and M4 drag race instead of a zoomed in dash-camera? The C7 is slightly faster to 60 (3.9 has been recorded by more than a few journalists) and is faster overall...

You would have to ask the journalists at motor sport that created it.

The C7 has been tested as low as 3.7s to 60mph and 11.6s in the 1/4 at 120mph. Stock auto. Many tests have been 3.9s and less (as you note) and there have been a lot of 1/4 mile times 11.9 and less by owners. That is notably faster than the M4 will be. Therefore, an overlayed speedo comparison is interesting but not particularly relevant IMO. I will say that if the M4 gets mid 11's in stock form in the 1/4 it would be fantastic!!! I don't believe that will be the case. Some C7's have been low 11's with a tune and simple bolt ons. The M4 will also, I expect, see similar improvements with a tune. But, stock for stock, I don't think the video here is at all representative. |

MotorSport magainze was listed as the source on the story where I found the video. I actually posted that off the iPad bimmerpost app and had thought the link took you to the blog, not straight to youtube. Sorry about any confusion. (also, for some reason I cant get the blog link to work this morning.....more coffee clearly required) |

Exactly!
Also, there is far too much emphasis on 0-60 times for the recent high hp cars, M4, C7, M5/6... etc For these highly powered cars it's primarily a function of traction. Good surface and sticky tires = good number. It's not the best indicator of performance and isn't c/w how most people use their cars... even those of us who are rather hard core. The M4 sounds like a dirt devil... |
