What speed do you consider fast?

When speed is not judged off of a speed limit but rather by your car’s capability and your own skill, what speed do you consider fast?

I hit 145 mph on Pacific Raceway. Car was completely under control. Could have gone faster if the straightaway was longer.

There’s no such thing. Speed is relative.
100 is too fast in a school zone. Very slow on a multi lane highway at night.

Skill has nothing to do with it…

Made up technical answer:

On public roads? 25MPH faster than other traffic is fast - need to be on the ball.

On the track? .05g below max traction (for braking/acceleration/turning) on high consequence sections of the track (i.e. little runoff, high speed) or 0.01g below on low consequence sections is fast.

Real Answer:

Like porn/obscenity - you will know it's fast when you see it as fast.

I never reached a speed I wouldn’t go over if the car could… 260 was the engine’s limit to push cars (253 on an Audi A6 on the Autobahn, 260 in another car).

If I had my M2 on the Autobahn I’d hit the 285 km/h limiter all night lol

As I mentioned, as long as the conditions permit, any speed is fair game. I would never do 285 in town lol

348 km/h on Autobahn in tuned F13 M6. Never again. Car was stable, but road was very bouncy.

Unfortunately, I'll probably never reach my threshold cuz I'm scared of getting dinged/impounded by the cops and the highways are potentially hazardous/dangerous w crazy potholes and unintended 'ramps' that could send you airborne.

I did around 150mph on a quiet German Autobahn at dawn...I didn't like it.
The speed differential to trucks in the other lanes was scary as well as the idea that a puncture would see a very long accident.
Whereas 130mph on a long straight on a wide open track felt pedestrian.
In day to day driving 100mph is my limit...get caught going any faster would see a hefty fine plus you need an empty road free of numbskulls not paying attention.

I'm jaded;I've had fast motorcycles since I was a teen in the 80's,my current stable of 300-500hp turbo bikes make any street legal vehicle feel slow AF,unless were talking mega dollar 2000whp GTR's,UG Lambos's,Porsches, etc that 60-130 and 100-150 in 2.x second range and it's not like anyone daily's those on the regular.

175mph+ in car is boring to me after you've been well over 200mph regularly on two wheels...in Mexico of course

Despite owning several M3s, I'm a bit uncomfortable at triple digits.

When I was in the UK years ago, on the M6 north of Liverpool, as one enters Scotland, there is a stretch of the M6 with no speed limit. I was in a Peugot 6 speed manual. I was going over 120 mph for quite some time (10 minutes or so). From what I remember, the car handled fine..

Not sure how much was left on the accelerator, but after that, I backed off... Not so much due to any limitations on the car.. but I had enough !!

Could have been due to being overseas, road being nearly empty with traffic, being in a rental car, my skill...all of above..

Depends on the car, the road, the weather, the light, so many factors.

"Fast" to me generally means "uncomfortable" and "pure concentration." Near The Dragon a few weeks ago there was a 16-mile, perfectly smooth, long sweeping road called the Foothills Parkway. It's a 45mph zone, but our line of cars drove it between 70 & 100 mph the entire way. The conditions were perfect, all the cars were sports cars, tires were heated up, everything was great, but it was also a bit uncomfortable because it required a lot of trust in the tires to maintain their grip. So to me, that was fast, yet 100mph on the interstate on a clear day is many times accidental, and not fast at all.

I think it has to do with perception of speed and the danger associated with it. Road/track surface and layout, traffic conditions, weather, type of vehicle and driver experience are all variables.

For example, my lap vs my buddy's lap driving my car. It went from "not bad, im getting the hang of it to this mofo is crazy as he's yelling - so much grip baby!'

Because of the U.S.'s shitty road maintenance, 100mph on any public road is fast, and lethal accidents at this speed from nothing you could have anticipated are possible. Not recommended. 0/10 stars.

Same thing in Canada. 100+ miles only happen on track days.

If I feel I am not under control or that I'll go to jail if I get caught.

Which could mean 30 mph on a backroad or 200 mph on a motorway with an 80mph limit.

Too many variables to give a simple answer. Straight road in good condition vs Chicago roads Big difference.

And it all changes if the car has an issue like a flat tire.

I find plenty of roads in good condition. The deterrent for me is other drivers and police. You never know what other drivers will do. Many seem to be only half alive. And of course it is the job of the police to ticket speeders and in some cases arrest them. Take away those 2 concerns, and I would see how fast my car will go. I have never driven over 170 mph, but would like to.

What are you referring to? There's no such thing as a motorway with no speed limit in the UK...
