2020 BMW X1 sliding rear seat option opinions

In short: I am debating on whether to add the sliding rear seat option that seems to be coupled with the Premium package

In the process of ordering a 2020 X1 lease and wanted the opinion of some owners on my selection. Coming from a 2017 RAV4, I am a little concerned about losing some interior space but it's not a big deal.

Current build:
2020 X1 xDrive
M Sport
19' M Sport Wheels
Convenience Package
Heated Seats and Steering Wheel
LED Cornering Lights

If I want the Sliding Reclining Rear Seat option, I'm forced to add the Premium Package. The build I listed above has everything in the Premium Package except the HUD, which I'm not dying to have.

The leasing company I'm working with pegs the Premium Package + Sliding Reclining Rear Seat option build at $15 a month more or ~$1,000 more MSRP. Not a huge deal but it is frustrating the sliding seat option is coupled with the Premium Package.

I know this comes down to how often I haul people/stuff around but can those with or without the sliding option weigh in?

Of all the years I have owned the car I have only used it (slide it back all the way) when fitting rear facing car seats. Ever since they have been back all the way. I like it but if Inwas to donut again Ibwould not get it and put the $$ in some other options or accessories.

I've only used the sliding seat option as well as the "auto open" on my wife's X1 like once or twice. I now added an X2 m35i for my own car and this last trip to the airport for thanksgiving I wish I could have slid the seats to better fit all the luggage I was transporting. I still managed though. Personally the HUD is really nice, I would be debating for that more than the sliding seats.

+2 for the HUD, I would not consider a vehicle without it after having it on my X2

I also considered the sliding rear seat option. SA said "the few customers who ordered that said they never used it. It's not worth the money."

I’ll go the other way - the sliding rear seat is only a $400 option here and I wish ours had it given that it’s the only way to get the remote seatback release buttons in the cargo area. If you put the rear seats down often like we do, it gets old having to pull those little loops and walk around the car to do the other side.

I've found the sliding rear seat to be very useful, even though I occasionally need to move one side forward by only one or two notches to make it easier to get my golf bag and Motocaddy electric trolley etc in the boot/trunk. Would definitely spec it if I have another X1.

We were quite attracted to it to give more rear legroom but the cost took the car over a critical UK tax threshold. The salesman told us that the fixed seat was in the same position as the sliding seat in its rearmost position, so that killed it for us.

+5 for the HUD. Really love the option. Not only it shows the speed but also you can see multimedia options. My friends and family are really impressed with this too.

Having sliding seats helps. When I was transporting large bags to airport and all my snow tires, that 6-8 inches space helped. otherwise I would have never fit them all.

Sliding rear seat, HUD and damper control are three 'must-haves', IMO and experience. They make the X1 more versatile and a better driving experience.

I've never used my sliding seats to be honest. If I need more storage room, I just bring the seats down.

Actually the sliding seats are meant to REDUCE legroom in favour of luggage.
When they are in the normal position they are in the same position of the “regular” seats.
I don’t have them but I have no regrets, when I need more space for luggage I simply lower one of the seat backs.
Probably the only useful aspect of having this optional is that you can lower back rests using a button in the luggage compartment, while without the optional you have to pull a handle close to the seats.

Thanks for the advice everyone.

I ended up ordering a 2020 X1 M Sport w/ the premium package and sliding rear seat option.

After reading up on here about the loud and firm ride of the X1, I went with the 18" M wheels w/ non-run flat tires rather than the 19" M wheels w/ run flat tires. I'm okay with losing the bonus space under the trunk for a softer and less noisy ride.

The wait begins, I was told it would be 6-8 weeks

No they are not.
The sliding rear seats give 2.5cm more leg space.
Checked it 100%.

My passengers love the fact they can recline the rear seats with this option.

I have sliding seats and never use them. Always have them scooted all the way back. Whenever I need more space, I just put the seats down.

My X1 Sport facelifted delivered August with the sliding rear seat DOES NOT COME with the push button release! Which is a bit of a pain since it was on my previous car. Also they have removed small storage compartment in rear armrest. Seems like way of saving some costs. Maybe it is just UK model.

Car arrived at the port Monday night, looking forward to my sliding rear seats... any day now

For what it's worth, it seems the LCI models no longer include the electronic remote seatback release buttons in the cargo area as part of the sliding rear seat option...

A bit disappointing. I'm still satisfied with the additional passenger leg room/cargo room when needed
