It adds an additional 10hp if you keep the CF unpainted...

Most CF products come unpainted with a UV protected clear-coat. It would just be additional cost to have it painted to match. I imagine that's why most people don't bother painting a part that's already clear coated.

Me neither!

Interesting few posts...

I am prepared to paint the CF roof if I don't like the overall look, and be content knowing that I've shaved a few lbs off, but it would defeat some of the point of getting it. I don't believe there's THAT much of a difference in weight (although I guess I'll find out in a week or so) between the standard roof panel and the CF one, not enough to make any difference in feel on the road I'd have thought, anyway. Half the reason for getting it is for the "look".

Obviously if I go further in the future with either interior (I am tempted to ditch the hugely heavy //M factory seats for some lightweight Recaros - but feel I need to get some use out of them first!), or other mods (going to see what weight savings there will be if I get my exhaust fabricated as a single pipe system, rather than twin-pipe all the way through), then the CF roof will add to those mods (and the lighter CSL wheels) to add up to a tidy weight reduction, but on it's own I'm not expecting to notice a huge (or any?) difference in performance/handling. I don't know, maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised....

An after all of that drama having to sell it.

12 hour motor swaps when you're the only guy doing most of the work is not that fun.
That's pretty much the exact reason why I still have my Jetta. I can't bring myself to sell the car due to the amount of time and money that went into it.
Rebuilt motor, big turbo, custom engine work, custom software, etc... etc...
I'll never see a fraction of the money back for what I invested if I sell this car.
So it takes the status of winter beater while I enjoy my Zed

Back on topic, have you considered getting a CF hatch to match? hehe, it rhymes.

Good luck sixspeed. I've been thinking about this mod as well. I spoke with a glass guy (since the roof is bonded in place) and he said it should be pretty easy to remove the roof without having to remove the windshield (though it would make it easier).

I can't imagine it providing a noticeable improvement in performance being that it is such a small panel on the car, but I agree that the look should be pretty hot.
