Power side mirror "jumps" when folding

Hello everybody!

A few days ago a problem appeared on the left power folding side mirror.
When folding or unfolding it, the movement is not smooth, but broken in some "jumps".
I searched to find a solution, but what I found by now is referring only at a small blocking pin.
Also, I took out the back part of the mirror, trying to clean & lubricate the rotation shaft with some WD40, but it didn't work - the mirror is still jumping.

Does anybody met this problem?
Any advice how to clean, lubricate or fix it?

Regards,
Stefan

My suggestion would be NOT to use WD-40 on exterior parts, it will cause dirt and dust to be more attracted to it. Use white litium grease. As for the jumping, if its gear driven maybe some teeth broke off if someone pushed it beyond its limits? I am not exactly sure.

Too late... I already used WD-40 on inside parts and it leaked out on the door. I hope will not affect the paint.

I don't know, but as I know, nobody pushed it beyond the limits.

Still waiting for other suggestions.

WD-40 should not affect your paint, but best to remove it with a clean cloth, then wash with auto shampoo and (suggest) give it a coat of polish. For info, the standard WD-40 product should not be used around rubber and, I understand, some plastics. What you should use in those instances is a silicone spray (WD-40 do offer a silicone spray in the UK, so I imagine you can get it in your country), which I use around my X1 and find very useful. WD-40 also manufacture an aerosol spray electrical contact cleaner, which I have found to be useful around the car and the house, so might be useful if there's a sticking electrical switch/motor.
I know other brands offer similar products, so I am not trying to promote WD-40 for any particular purpose, but simply from my own experience

Thank you for explanations, oakwy46!

I'm also waiting for any ideas about the real problem - the jumping side mirror

Regards,
Stefan
