Estimated time of arrival - Navigation Pro
Compared to my Garmin I used in my previous car, that gave a very good prediction of the estimated time of arrival, my new F10 Nav-Pro is way off. 30-40% more, and it is not very helpful. Has anyone similar problems, or a solution?

yes
I also noticed this the first time I used the Nav. It seems to route the longest way possible no matter which setting you use. Also, it does not seem to route like my Tom Tom did.

In my case, the route is the same, but the estimated time is 30-40% longer. When you drive, the estimate is updated, so so I "gain" time all the way. On the Garmin the estimate were more correct and stable. So it seems like it nav in the F10 have wrong information about driving time/speed limits or something else.

it probably comes out even, but you really don't know your expected arrival time. With my Tom Tom it was dead on w/in a few minutes of the original estimated arrival time. I tried a Navigon before and it was constantly changing the arrival time earlier and earlier, which isn't very helpful. The F10 Nav seems to do the same as the Navigon. I want my arrival time to be as accurate as possible before I start driving....I don't want it to keep changing as I'm driving.

Have to say it doesn't seem as accurate as my Tom Tom and doesn't have warnings when you're approaching speed cameras as the Tom Tom does. I haven't really gone in depth with it yet though, so there may be things that I need to set up properly, but in terms of some basic functionality it seems lacking (haven't seen an option to insert a postcode for example).
As said it did start with some very strange times compared to the Tom Tom, but it seems to be improving now. I also tried the dynamic routing feature as well but can't say it helped much. So when it offered me the same option a couple of days back I ignored it thinking I might be OK and ended being stuck for 40 mins...# Bloody computers... |

Nissan/Infiniti navigation allows you to set speed for each type of road.
It was absolutely dead accurate regardless of where I went (and while I had XM NavTraffic, it was spooky how accurate it was when traffic was involved). The BMW navigation system is way too complex and ultimately defeats its own purpose.

I think it bases estimated speed based on avarage speed for the last period. This is done for the different road types. So if your in a traffic jam one day it might estimate to low speed the next.

I dont think so. I have deleted all avarages, and driven fast over some time, to see if there is a slight effect. No change. I have also tried a the previous 5 series with the newest navigation. It gives exactly the same estimate, an there is no way these 2 cars have the same "experience" from the last period.

Garmin learns to adjusts ETA according to your driving style. As I always drive fast I always get ETA's that are a little challenging to meet.
Of course it's spot on in the end as the calculation is dynamic, but I can almost never shave off more than 5-10 minutes even on long drives. |
