Are there any cars with full LED that have mechanical adaptive lighting? I think it's all handled by different arrays in the LED cluster.

I think a lot of people are mistaking X1 LEDs with "intelligent adaptive LED" available in more expensive models. X1, 1 and 2 Series' LED headlight has a fixed horizontal array of diods in the outer bulb (inner bulbs are just cosmetics and are only there to keep the signature quad halo look). Each diod can switch on/off and change intensity in accordance with speed, steering angle and yaw of the car, resulting in different beams (short and wide in low speed, long on motorways, more intense on left/right when steering at high speed; doing what traditional swivelling HID bulbs do, etc.). There is also the cornering light which has its own stand alone LED bulb. The more expensive Intelligent adaptive LED can stay in high beam and alter each diod individually to avoid dazzling traffic. The horizontal bar in the middle of the bulb distinguishes the two. See comparison photo below: The price tag is also a good way of distinguishing the two. Not so intelligent ones cost between ~£650 and ~£850 (£800-ish in X1 I think). Intelligent ones are almost twice as expensive. And then there is the laser version on range topping 7 Series. DO WANT! |

Here is the language in the USA spec model from the Owners Manual:
Cornering lamp: When going around corners, the cornering light also lights the interior area of the curve. Below a speed of approx. 25 mph/40 km/h when the turn signal is switched on and the steering angle is detected, there is automatic activation. This is included in the US Premium package ($3,250 option). |

no adaptive, an extra corning light turns on when you turn the steering wheel and/or reach the speed.
also the self parking(parking assistance) is not fully automatic, it requires you apply gas/brake, and shift. |

Is there a way to activate the cornering lights (via E-Sys coding perhaps) with the light switch in low/main beam (instead of automatic)?

Adaptive headlights and High Beam Assistant
Just ordered a new X1 xline with adaptive headlights as standard. Am I correct in thinking these swivel and illuminate the near side when going around bends? BMW site contradictory regarding High Beam Assistant as when using 'build your own' it includes it in Driver Assistant (which is not that useful as Active Control is now standard and also has some of the same technologies), but when looking in Discover and technology hub they are NOT included in Driver Assistant. Had dealer look at it and has come back to say High Beam Assistant is included in DA, but am I correct that all this does is dip lights automatically. None of the fancy leaving one light on full beam and adjusting the beam of the other to prevent dazzle? Agree literature and web site designed to confuse and muddy the waters like politicians do I don't want to pay £495 just to save myself flicking main beam off and on...

the LEDs are not "adaptive", not the same system you get in F30 or higher models.
They would for 1) cost twice as much 2) have a "shader" that modulates the beam for oncomming traffic etc. |

The LED headlights that are standard in the xLine trim don't actually swivel, but they do "adapt" and light up differently depending on the speed you're going at. From the F48 technical docs:
The variable beam pattern offers improved adaptation of the beam pattern on the road situation. On a recent holiday in rural Wales I found them to be very good on the dark narrow lanes, the cornering light was noticeable at the front sides. My only criticism would be that the main beam doesn't seem a whole lot brighter than the dipped headlights, although the higher spread of the full beam is apparent. |

My previous 5 series Touring (E61) had adaptive xenon lights which were excellent, but I find the X1 LED lights to be very good as well. I must admit that the cornering lights on the older E61 were better, but I don't feel I'm missing out too much with the F48 lights. When shopping around for a replacement a few months back I knew I wanted decent headlights; halogens were not on the list...

And to answer your original question about the Driving Assistant package (5AS) and High Beam Assistant, if you're not interested in the other features that Driving Assistant provides then yes, you would be paying £495 to have the car automatically turn the high-beam off and on

Look at the positive...the LED will be a vast improvement over the halogens in your current car.
I had adaptive lights on my 3-series (probably my favourite feature, really advanced stuff) so have been spoilt...the lights on the X1 still compare favourably IMO. Last edited by sdb123; 08-05-2016 at 04:57 AM.. Reason: Poor grammar! |

Has anyone tried to retrofit the pre LCI Led headlights (63117436463, 63117436464) to the LCI adaptive LED (63119477825, 63119477826)?

In my case I will need the kafas and SAS module first.
It will take me a few months to resolve this part because the bad news is that I bought the adaptive LED headlights but the post office in Brazil sent one of the headlight away. So I will need to buy another one. In addition to difficult to obtain any parts, I also have to deal with this type of setback. Sad |

Adaptive headlights - only half lol Msport bumpers - on the way Msport brakes - on the way Adaptive suspension - on the way I was thinking, would it be possible to install this gearshift on a vehicle with AISIN 8-speed transmission? |
