Auto Start/Stop - Steering Wheel?

Just a quick question, does your steering wheel completely lock when the car stops in auto start/stop mode?

Had some work done on the steering asy but it doesn't seem to lock anymore, its kinda loose.

Just wanted a quick verification before I take it to get checked out.

What you talking about?

Yes it does, if your car turns off during the start stop activation, it locks the steering wheel and you cannot move it. There's threads on it going back to the first introduction of this.

I'm guessing they didn't fix his right.

billnchristy is probably referring to his x2, I also have a US x2 and I can assure you that the steering wheel does NOT lock when Auto Start/stop has the car stopped, but it obviously doesn't have power steering when it's stopped, then when it senses the wheel being moved it starts up the car.

The wheel doesn't lock during automatic start/stop. The power steering pump goes off, so you have to tug it a big, once you move the wheel enough (maybe 1/4" to 1/2" rotation) the car will start back up. I'll often use this to get the engine going when it's stopped and I'm going to need to make a quick turn without pulling my foot of the brake so the person behind me stays stopped while I'm getting ready for a quick turn.

Technically it's also hydraulic, it's the pump that is electric. This is how the car provides a variable assist, among other advantages.

X1/x2, like others said, you lose power steering so it’s tight, but it is not locked, that would be mega dangerous.

Yeah, I guess its the power steering. Mine isn't tight anymore! Its loose all over the place.

I guess when they changed the steering assy they didn't connect it or what?

What should I have checked?
