Trip to Grand Canyon

Any tips besides "don't fall in"? Going to go there for a few days and looking for any tips from those who've gone such as which part is the most scenic and what to do around that area, even brewery tips would be appreciated. Also where to stay and where to eat in that area. Coming from socal and driving - Going full Griswold!
Thanks.

About 6 years ago we went to Vegas in Oct. temps were pushing 100* in the day. On a whim we decided to to a road trip to Grand Canyon and we were off. Took a couple of hours and all was well. We get there and get out of car and the wind is blowing sideways, snow flurries and it’s cold as hell. We’re wearing shorts and t’s and were shivering and teeth chattering. We stay about 1/2 hr soaking in as much beauty as we can, it’s phenomenal, take sone pics and got back in car and headed back to the oven, Vegas.
Moral of the story, it’s awesome and bring warm clothes just in case. That’s all I got.

Which part are you going to? I have only been to South Park. If you go that far take Route 66 as much as possible. It's a pretty drive and some of the stops are fun. If you are looking for somewhere to stay I enjoyed the El Tovar. Good food there as well. Great time of year to go. I hope there is some snow involved. Seeing snow on the tops and being able to view the color changes to the bottom is amazing. Lots of wildlife to see as well.

Make it to Antelope Canyon and Horseshoe Bend if your schedule allows.

These were on my Bucket List and checked them off last year finally.

Would love to revisit Horseshoe Bend and its surrounding areas to take it all in next time.

Agree on Antelope Canyon.

If your focus is on the GC, stay at one of the lodges there. Once you’re in the park you can go anywhere without having to pay to get in again. Lots of lookouts and trails. I like the donkey/burro ride down into the canyon, especially to annoy kids, but it isn’t for everyone and I think you need reservations.

Give yourself some options in case of rain/fog (no views).

We did a day trip that included a raft ride, airplane tour and jeeps to Antelope Canyon. Cheesy but worth it for a day and especially because it was my wife’s first time there (she wasn’t my wife yet, but agreed at Moran Point when her choice was to wear the ring or jump).

You definitely want light layers there because you can go from cold to hot pretty fast. You’re at altitude on the rim, and the temps are quite different in the bottom.

The north side will be closed. So it will be the southside and it will be cold. If you have children you can always ride on the grand canyon railroad. That is pretty cool. There's also the glass skyWalk out on the reservation that's neat too.

My wife and I went to Vegas in August(coming from Georgia the dry heat was way better than humid heat) rented a convertible Mustang and drove to Grand Canyon west. It was kinda crappy to be honest. It was like $300 to be bused to 5 different crappy buildings with school cafeteria food and then we waited 20 minutes to walk out on the skywalk. The skywalk was cool, but of course photos were $25 and you cant take your phone out on it. I would avoid GC west and see if you can find a better option.

Report back. Me and in-laws are doing a 10-day trip the first week of March to include Glendale, AZ for some Cactus league games, time in the Canyon, and final stop in Vegas. We are renting a church-bus and I'm probably doing all the driving (at least during the day) I found out at least one game we sit first row behind Dodgers dugout!

Bright Angel Trail. BUT don’t be like younger me. Do not underestimate the walk back up and bring plenty of water. Watch the faces of people coming back up and you walk down particularly as you first start and remember them as you think about going further down. I went 3 miles down and then back up and there were periods where I thought I might not make it back up. And I believe this is one of the easier hikes. Also, watch out for mule shit.

It was years ago that we went but we found Yosemite more interesting. It was great to see and all but just liked Yosemite better.

I'm curious about this too. We have friends getting married in Vegas 4/2/20. We are flying into Phoenix, renting a car and driving to Sedona staying 4 days. We plan to do some hiking and hit the Grand Canyon. After, we will drive over to Vegas. I've never been out to this area so looking forward to it.

Check out a hike in Sedona such as to the arch or BOX canyon or long canyon or to steamboat rock. All are pretty cool and shouldn't have snow.

Hikes in the canyon are long. The above are half day or just longer and beautiful. Long Canyon is pretty especially at the end.
