Adaptives Fahrwerk
Can anyone explain this and how it affects the ride in my car?

Thanks, does it help with the “hard ride” that seems to afflict the X1 as commented on this forum?

They are 19 inch on my Tiguan and Scorpion puncture proof tyres so should notice a slight difference.

Em I wouldn't say the X1 rides hard, it is pretty comfortable actually, especially in the non-M sport suspension. I guess for many people the X1 is the first BMW they drive so they find it firm, but it is normal for a BMW to be a little firmer than equivalent brands. It's a desired effect that makes the handling better.

Speaking from an X2 perspective, I got the Msport, 19 inch wheels with adaptive suspension.
It is really worth the relatively small extra cost. You can switch it on or off from the drive experience screen. It only gives you the option when you select 'sport'. Then you can make sport mode apply to the drivetrain and suspension, or just the drivetrain. I found that I leave it 'drivetrain and suspension' active most of the time unless I'm on choppy country roads. The firmer mode is apparently equivalent to the normal fixed Msport suspension in terms of firmness and damping control. The switchable suspension really does make a difference to the ride quality. I never got a good answer from BMW why I could not specify adaptive suspension with 20 inch wheels...
