Chicago/midwest blizzard + 335i + blizzak LM60's + 25 miles of unplowed roads

So many posts on here about problem this and recall that... that's why we have a maintenance section. For those that have been here for awhile it gets old. So I decided to post my experience with this car after tonight's drive.

25 miles of unplowed wet snow
3'' of snow an hour soon
non icey inclines
somewhat icey parking garages

Car performed like a champ. I would take this over my old 07 Acura TL-S (fwd) with all seasons any day. I've driven AWD in the snow with all seasons and it's great starting off but braking stinks. Blizzaks FTW and 335i FTW. That's all. =)

Awesome, snow is always fun to drive when its coming down and the roads are free of traffic. especially when u have a car equipped to own the roads given the conditions. How much snow was on the ground at the time?

Blizzaks are the Plasma TV of snow tires. Some day I want to try out a set of Green Diamonds....considered a "cheat tire" in ice racing.

I had no idea there was 1/2" of candy glare ice on my steep driveway when I got home from work one day. My WRX had Blizzaks all around. I turned into the driveway slowly, at the usual angle, so my front lip wouldn't scrape, after driving 35 miles on what I thought were wet roads. The car went up the driveway with ZERO hints of slip. I stepped out of the car and nearly broke my neck. My feet slipped right out from under me. In disbelief, I got back in the car, backed down, stopped on the hill, and went back up again with ZERO slipping on glare ice. This was 100% ice. I went inside the house to get my wife, to validate what I just did. We had to hang on to the garage wall and clasp the fenders as we made our way into the car. She was amazed, and immediately wanted Blizzaks for her car. They have a huge advantage on ice and packed snow.

I definitely agree on the Blizzaks being one of the best snow/ice tires out there. But I recently changed my rear LM25 RFT to a pair of General Altimax Arctic which performs just as well at a fraction of the price.

I drove 12 miles in the snow tonight with my Blizzaks as well. It's amazing that I was confidently passing up 4x4's on the expressway.

They have been great on my car. I bought a set of LM22's and have never had an issue with traction. Dont tell my boss this so i can work from home today.

I have Blizzaks now (because my dealer had a great coupon for a set of 4), but the hands down best snow tire I've ever had were Nokian Hakka 5s. They put Blizzaks to shame. When the Blizzaks wear out, Nokian's are going on my car.

I have the LM-60s and this morning we had ice in philly that you couldn't walk on. They did a pretty darn good job with DTC on. So far this season I've tried them in cold rain, slush, fluffy snow, icy snow, freezing rain and now straight up ice. I'm not sure how they compare to other types of snow tires (this is the only set I've had for my 335) but I'd rather have my car with blizzaks right now than any awd car with all seasons.

Snow tires rock!!! In Connecticut we got over 60 inches of snow January with another major storm hitting today. I have general Altimax tires and all wheel drive and i love it. I was able to make it up a 30 degree hill( or so) with 5 inches of snow with no problem and no slipping. I love it

Winter driving in the 3'er is a blast, turn on the heated seats, heated steering wheel and kick the rear end out for a while. Take a break, hit the REST button, go get some food. Come back to a nice warm car and do it all over again

Yeah...my concern is not traction over the next day or two...it will be visibility and more car related the fact that I am riding so low. I'll plow my driveway with the 3'r and get the last 2" with a shovel metinks...

Tonight is gonna suck. Like AFV335 said, the big issue is going to be visibility. Lots of snow along with sustained winds of 30+ MPH gusting to 50 or maybe 60 is going to cause white out conditions. Snow tires won't do shit for you in that department.

That being said, I agree with others. I went the performance winter tire route this year instead of my usual studless (WS60) choice due to the fact that the roads I use are pretty much always well-groomed. I can really tell the difference between my old setup (WS60) and my new one (Dunlop Wintersport M3), but it's still pretty amazing how well I can get around in snow.

Same boat here, General Altimax Arctics on my 335i and they have done exceptionally well.

I ran LM25's on my 335 and now I run them on my E46 M3. Amazing tire and although I don't drive much in the snow (if at all), they really do handle great in the dry and wet.

+1 on Blizzaks

Had Blizzaks on my E39. This winter I bought Blizzaks for my E90.

We've gone through snow, slush, frost and now ice in Philly.

My E90 and Blizzaks have motored through everything like a champ.

So, Yes, they're THAT good!

I have michelin x-ice. I drive 35 miles one way to work and they are awsome. This car w/ snow tires feels better then my 04 Nissan titan, if there is less than 7 inches on the ground.
