Hey all, not finding a great deal of info out there, I now have 85k on my xDrive 20D M sport with the 8-speed Aisin auto-box and want to do a service on it, drives fine but thinking that worth doing an oil change to keep everything maintained.

Now from looking around online I see people mention everywhere that the oil filter is built into the sump which is changed and also need to change the plug seal etc but talking to a local BMW specialist earlier they say that on the Aisin boxes you cannot do that and all you can do is just change the oil on these?

Can anyone confirm if that is the case and its just a drain and refill job, no filter that can be changed etc?

Are these boxes all good with a decent make after market oil OK or always use genuine BMW?

Is anyone able to help on this as I keep getting contradictory information from garages

One garage says that the Aisin box does not have a filter that can be changed and sump doesn't come off it and they will drain it and refill

Another garage says yes the sump does come off the box and there is a filter than can be changed on the Aisin box!

Ive seen the videos online on the same box in a Volvo and they drain it, fill it, run through gears, and repeat 3 times to get most of old oil out.

Anyone know much about these and/or been through a service on this box in an X1 who can remember details about what was done?

Hi

I changed the Aisin Gear box oil on my X1 - there is no filter and you change the oil 3 times - running the gearbox in each gear in between changes to mix the oil out
