Are the bolt the same length and head base? ie, lugbolts can be specific to wheel type, requiring either a rounded head base or a conical headbase. If the wrong lug is used with the wheel, it can be dangerous. Also, the length of bolt in the hub needs to be same when tightened, certainly not shorter. These are important safety issues when fitting different wheels.

I took the car to my local Tirecraft (similar to Tire Rack in GTA). THe owner who I trust looked at my concern and said i was good and not to worry. I still don't like it a little but it should be fine. I can post a picture of both bolts later. |

All good, then. As to appearance, I guess it comes done to one's individual level of OCD. For a winter set up, I'd be tempted to hit the heads with a little black paint or plasti-dip. But if you seek perfection, there's plenty of places that sell lugbolts, and I'm sure black is one of the colour options.

More pics of my winter setup
Today I had a car wash and posted more pics of my wheels.
they are 17 inch Replica R194 which are said to be 100% fit for the new X1. I tried to order some other rims before, while the bolts heads are different, which could have safety issue after intalled. |

I went with 18" Sport Edition wheels with Blizzak LM-32's for the X1 - they've been handling the Chicago winter admirably so far! Yes, ignore the blue cap covers

How does the X1 perform in the snow?
I'll be taking my Xdrive 20D from the UK to the French alps at the end of this month - The roads in alps are normally pretty good and usually free of snow and ice. I'll be driving on the standard factory fit RF tires - (perhaps taking a gamble) that the roads will be fine!
How do the standard tires hold up in wintery conditions? I may invest in some snow socks, just in case! With a lack of snow in the UK my snow experiences in this vehicle are limited! Thanks all! |

Question is: are they All Season or Performance tyres?
Right now there is a cold spell in mid-Europe incl. France. If A/S you are home free - if Performance, I recommend socks as a an insurance. Note: AWD tends to disguise icy roads - until you need to brake! |

I went with a similar setup as stefan and can highly recommend it! Michelins are the most comfortable winter tires I have ever had and they are ultra quiet. 18" rims also don't look like too small vs. the 19" M-Sports on summer.
So the rims are 18X8 MSW 48 with 225/50R-18 Micheling X-Ice XI3 XL tires. I paid $1,962 USD for everything, delivery to Canada included. Everything arrived installation-ready in under one week and the only addition after putting them on were the BMW stickers. I would highly recommend Canadians to shop with Tire Rack. Nice prices and excellent service. |

Looking for a set of winter wheels and found a set on kijiji for a decent price. They came of Audi s4 and they are 8.5x18, 5x112 with 45 ET and has 235/40/18 Michelin winter tires on them. I have read somewhere on the forums that bolt size for Audi is slightly different but I should be fine if I use the stock bolts that came with the car. Any advise or suggestions if this is an okay set up for winter tires? Thanks and your help is appreciated. |

Maybe the following considerations are not as great in the US:
If your car is still under BMW warranty and you have any drivetrain problems if you do not fit the BMW approved wheels and tyres BMW may dispute your claim In the UK as far as insurance goes if you fit any modifications you should notify your insurance company and request their approval. non BMW wheels and tyres would be considered modifications by most UK insurance companies. Many are likely to advise against the fitment of non BMW recommended wheels and tyres Generally I personally prefer to see cars in standard spec - I just think that they look better than having after-market additions added Last edited by Bluewater335D; 08-18-2019 at 11:39 AM.. |

Second year with this set-up reinstalled today.
18x8 +30 RTX Ingosals with Firestone 225/50 WinterForce 2's. No complaints, still looking for center caps though.
