I think only if you connect to the car with the Enet cable. or search online for someone to help you with generated code

Latest update for UK/Europe mapping is EuropeWay version 2021-3, which can be downloaded via the BMW Download Manager app and transferred to 32gb USB dongle for insertion in the car. Earlier posts on this thread refer to the need to ensure full update has been actioned because latest version info will show on screen even if the full update hasn’t been completed. This happens if the process is interrupted early for any reason. Full update can take up to c20 mins to install in the car.

Only unauthorized ones. You will need to search for one. You will still need to obtain an FSC code for your vehicle if you are outside the map update time criteria. This normally means paying someone to generate one who has the software to do it.

I have updated my way map from 2017-3 to 2021-1 last month through USB and it did not ask for FSC. However the bmw connected drive app was showing I had to pay. I got the map from torrent. I think I can update for free until 4 years.

This is one of the best trade forums in existence. I am sure you have to pay in the region of £10 to join. Once in I think that its for life. I am not sure though because I did it by invitation. I downloaded many maps for free by torrent link for my X3. I also obtained at a reasonable price a lifetime FSC code. It appears BMW have changed map coding to stop this lifetime FSC code hack.

I'm located in the UK. My satnav updates ''Over The Air''. Is this the same as doing an update/ download via download manager and a usb?

No, not quite.
Downloading via the BMW Download Manager App gives you (in the UK) updates for all Western Europe mapping, whereas the 'Over the Air' download only includes mapping for your locale. For the UK that includes UK + Ireland, but not the remainder of Western Europe.
That is probably because an OTA update of Western Europe would take a very long time via the in-car SIM card as it is quite a large download.

Seems like the free map updates end when warranty expires.

This happened to me. I raised it with ConnectedDrive Support. Having had no answer from an email I rang them. When you ring, you get a recorded message saying that due to a new IT system you cannot currently purchase new map upgrades which they are trying to resolve. The agent I spoke to told me to refresh the service from the car, uninstall BMW Download Manager and reinstall it from the facility available after you login to ConnectedDrive. That facility seems to have completely disappeared and isn't available as per the instructions they sent me (which are also on the web site). So my suspicion is that BMW have completely cocked up with a new IT system. I will be ringing them again next week. In my case, this message was nothing to do with warranty expiry - the agent confirmed that my map update subscription has another 9 months to run.

I am not sure that this has to do with the expiration of the 2year warranty. But since I noticed it just a few days after it expired I thought, that there might be a connection.
Anyway I will try again after a couple of weeks. Nevertheless I rarely use the BMW maps. I prefer Carplay

The original map update process appears to have been reinstated on bmw.co.uk at least. Login, click on My Vehicles, Vehicle Details, scroll down to Map Update, follow the process. Latest is Europe Way 2021-3.
