Don’t think there’s a MAF sensor on a charge pipe fuel injection kit

We don't have aftermarket charge pipes - they are plastic and definitely will not support adding another injector - which we theoretically 'could help' but it's cheaper to swap out the fuel pump with something else (maybe).

Is no one afraid of the stock plastic CP breaking prematurely by running 27+ psi?

Our air pipes from intercooler to intake manifold are rubber hoses
Not sure if I can get fuel trims. When it calls for 29 it's an off throttle state |

So now I still want to find out lph - that is the bottleneck.
On the odd change to find 'the edge' of how much additional air we can add, I just ordered two of these: https://the-pipercross-shop.myshopif...m35-ix~yr_2019 Last edited by xcelir8bmw; 10-11-2020 at 10:49 PM.. |

There's something funky going on and I'm betting it's an economy trick. I graphed boost, afr demand vs delivered, fuel rate and throttle position.
Looks like the system demands lean operation when off throttle coasting. My question is why is the system delivering that condition early? |

Xcel- I think you need to look at situation analysis not just min/max. I just ran a log with trims and have as much as -16 at peak boost. The place where the trims go positive to prevent lean are at idle where mine goes +16

I am hoping that the 'situation' I had, was that the MAF was reading way too GD hot of intake temps at 145F that made something go whack. But that doesn't explain how Rice, running a JB4 didn't have the issues like I did on map2, 30 failsafe.
Thinking the Pipercross filters with ~30% more airflow (a lot less than I did) and enclosed might solve for something. At this point, I dunno. |

okay, i have a question that's completely unrelated to what you guys are talking about right now, but totally related to the jb4 in general.
in another thread i asked about whether or not buying an extended warranty would be worthwhile and a number of people said no, to wait, although the more one waits generally the more expensive the bmw-backed warranties become. that aside, if thinking of keeping this car for a period of around six years, would it be wise to purchase an extended warranty based solely on the fact that we are trying to squeeze the most out of this little engine that may already be at its limits? OR because we are putting extra strain on the components, particularly the plastic ancillary components, although i suppose on the engine itself as well, would it just be wise to take a bit of a financial hit and get rid of the car in 2024 when the 4yr/50k mile warranty runs out? thanks in advance for your opinions and thoughts!

At the end of the warranty, if you can buy an extension at a higher price you are really gambling against depreciation and the myriad of what if's. I have only kept two of the twenty cars for more than the warranty period and they were both minivans. And I hate every time I had to fix it. Five grand this year is better than a new car payment. There is no such thing in this world as the right decision. IMO, chill out, enjoy the car and reassess before end of the warranty's expiry date. Life changes... |

Bugged.
Re-took a look at my IAT on map2 when the CTS was on. Here are the results: CTS Turbo Intake map 2 IAT min 109 average 123 max 136 My 'average' is probably ok, but the max is not. I thought it was higher, but I was getting confused by my fuel trims. |

good advice xcelir8bmw -- i more than likely won't keep the car for more than the warranty period, but there is always that what if that needs to be addressed (at least by me), so if i were to be able to get the 72m/100k mile warranty under 4k i might just take it. that said, there are more fun ways to spend that money right now, but peace of mind is hard to put a price on.
i've got some thinking to do even though i'm already overthinking this entire thing haha

That's about what I was seeing in the summer with the stock intake. I think the eventuri has lowered mine considerably but it does and will suffer from heat soak. |

yeah, the platinum bmw-backed one covers everything the factory bumper-to-bumper warranty does.

Don't forget that IAT is measured near the manifold, after the turbo and also the intercooler. The airbox helps by admitting cooler air, but it's only part of the equation.
I'd suspect a high max IAT is happening under high boost conditions at low speed, where the intercooler isn't getting enough air to dump the heat, temporarily. It's probably not a big deal. If you want to verify, put a thermocouple inside the intake tube, behind the filter. But I doubt you can do better than the Eventuri, without cutting holes in body parts. |
