Talking Still love my 2009 335d !!!

Every time I get into this car I feel good. I've owned a lot of cars. A few BMWs.
Bought my wife a 335i. She says the d feels more smooth and solid on the road and prefers driving it. After the lease is up I'll get her the 335d. She doesn't do the mileage that I do but who cares. I was at the dealership a while back and someone was buying a new 335d. I chatted him up and he told me the same thing my wife says. Feels solid on the road and has more get up and go. I got accustomed to the d sound so now, and like it. It roars. I really think this is the best all round car on the road. Took a long drive (3000 miles RT) and got 35MPG. Around town I get 25MPG. Didn't buy it for the fuel efficiency, bought it for the TORQUE. I love having people in the car when they say "%!$! this car moves!". Torque = smile. I thought I would never purchase a diesel for a lot of reasons. I was wrong. Sometimes I am. :-) Europeans knew this already, didn't they? Once you drive the 335d for a while it becomes addictive. I never had this experience before. Don't know why it is. I keep looking forward to having somewhere to drive. . .

yep, still love my D just got back from a 1600 mile trip at elevated speeds and some very elevated speeds and got 31.7 overall, if this had bbeen a gas BMW it would have been in the 21-22 mpg range as I have made this trip in all BMWs I have owned and never gotten over 22mpg on it.

If only they sold an X-Drive model I would have bought one.

I also love my DD S4 but Im almost averaging the same fuel usage as my M3... It's so hard NOT to floor it from light to light.

With a set of proper snow tires (Dunlop M3s) and a bag or two of sand in the trunk, the 335d is only limited by road clearance. This car handles winter conditions very well. No need for X drive, which would increase fuel consumption and adversely affect the steering.

Agreed !!! You hit the nail on the head ! There is no other car on the planet that offers this unique combination of high performance, terrific handling and amazing fuel economy.

It appears that American buyers are finally waking up to the charms of this gem of a BMW. One member reported the 335d outsold the 335i during the months of April and June. No doubt we will soon see more BMW diesels coming to North America.

As Derek S noted, with a set of proper winter tires, this car is great, even without xDrive! Driving up and down the Ottawa valley last year winter was no problem at all, the balance on the car is great. Getting 45+ mpg (Imp) on the highway is an added bonus for having this much fun!

Tomorrow will mark 13 month of 335d ownership for me. I too am still loving the car. Actually, I've never had a car for a year, and still feel excited about driving it. So this is a new experience for me.

I really hope they bring another twin turbo diesel out for the F30. The 425 torque has spoiled me.

I am kicking myself not to have ordered a 335d (was bent to get that and nothing else at one point of time). Went with the underpowered 328i as this is my first BMW and I am leasing.

Now with the Ultimate Drive allowance likely getting extended and the lease rates still being low, I might have had a really nice upgrade without a big premium to pay.

Got to live with the 328i now, and may be I will keep kicking myself every time I need power. I will not get it for another one month at least, just completes production tomorrow. I should have listened when Ron1n was telling me the same thing about sticking with the 335d instead.

Great choice! Best practical 3er in the country.

Diesels greener than battery cars, says Swiss gov report, love my car even more now!

New report issued by Swiss government research lab EMPA, titled Contribution of Li-Ion Batteries to the Environmental Impact of Electric Vehicles. The Swiss boffins, having done some major research into the environmental burdens of making and disposing of li-ion batteries - to add to the established bodies of work on existing cars - say that battery manufacture and disposal aren't that big a deal. However, in today's world, with electricity often made by burning coal or gas, a battery car is still a noticeable eco burden:

The main finding of this study is that the impact of a Li-ion battery used in [a battery-powered car] for transport service is relatively small. In contrast, it is the operation phase that remains the dominant contributor to the environmental burden caused by transport service as long as the electricity for the [battery car] is not produced by renewable hydropower ...

A break even analysis shows that an [internal combustion engined vehicle] would need to consume less than 3.9 L/100km to cause lower [environmental impacts] than a [battery car] ... Consumptions in this range are achieved by some small and very efficient diesel [cars], for example, from Ford and Volkswagen.
