UK Passenger Side Wing Mirror Glass
Hello,
I have F48 X1 sDrive18d xline B47 2.0d LCI Auto, first-registered in May, 2020. A couple of days ago, my passenger-side wing mirror glass was stolen. It seems they didn't damage the base but I am not sure. So, I don't know what should I do, is it better to have it replaced at BMW service, or should I buy it on the internet and try to replace it myself? Another point is that, if I remember correctly when I reverse, the mirror is dipping but I couldn't find a heated & auto-dipped & not auto-dimmed glass on the internet. Where do you guys search for spare parts on the internet usually? Thank you |

Auto dip and dim, isn’t that the same?
You have powerfolding, heating and auto-dim. I believe all autodim are automatically heated aswell. |

Yes, you are right but I don't know, some people call auto-dip to the functionality that automatically move the passenger mirror down when you reverse.
I also saw that the passenger mirror is not auto-dim by default so I need a heated one only: https://f48.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...ht=wing+mirror Does something like the following work for replacement then? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/115456232917? Thank you! |

To find the correct mirror glass…I would suggest to use one of the online part database sites like www.realoem.com … enter the last 7 digits of your VIN, then go to the diagrams for the mirror glass (group 51). Then select the correct 11 digit BMW part number for the mirror you seek based on how your car is optioned. Then google the correct 11 digit BMW part number (ie BMW xx xx x xxx xxx where x=the actual BMW part number). This will help you get the correct mirror glass. At a certain build date…BMW stopped offering auto-dim on the passenger mirror. So again, don’t confuse “auto-dim” with the tilt-in-reverse feature…they are NOT the same thing but many owners conflate the “auto-dip” and “tilt-in-reverse” to be the same…they are not.

I had the same issue when fitting 3rd party scrolling wing mirror repeaters to the housing, I cheeped out (as SWMBO didn’t know I was fitting different repeaters so had to be purchased and fitted whilst she was at work) and bought from a well known auction site, fitted fine except the heated element connectors where in the wrong orientation ie, iirc the prongs on the existing laid flat along the back of the mirror glass but the replacement stuck out at right angles to the mirror glass, sorted easily enough but to be aware of
