Looks legit. Not sure why they couldn’t introduce thicker / better snorkels, but probably the best aftermarket solution for intake on F48.

If you read Dinan's reasoning for the design of their intake for the F48 X1, they admitted that the restriction is mainly in the tubing after the Airbox. It would have been more costly to produce an intake that incorporated the entire tubing tract, thus they made this particular intake for ease of installation and more affordability.

I got dinan on wife's car about a month ago. It's just a meh better (my feel). The air whooshing is slightly pronounced above 2500 rpm in sports mode (radio needs to be off).

I did this and the golf tee exhaust mod on the X1 few Sundays ago when it was still 50F outside and she thought it had a flash tune (it didnt). So point being; she noticed a bigger difference, what she called a throaty response but no noticable gain in power (on my butt dyno).

She barely puts any miles on it and if we keep it past 2020 I may consider the recently released Noelle tune.

If you need to see how it looks on the car or any help with the DIY let me know. Dinan had a 10% off MSRP sale which Intook advantage last month.

Proper
I was looking at BMS website and they mention the intake isn’t compatible with 2018+ F48 B48 Motors. It says it’s only compatible with 2015-2017 motors..

What year is your X1? I really hope that’s an error on the site. I want the intake!

I believe it's because the MAF sensor changed.

Just saw this and figured I'd help you out with a little tip.. the X2 M35i model has the newer square MAF.. so if the 2018 X1 has it then I don't see why it wouldn't fit!

Well, I had an open CAI from K&N and finally replaced it with an aFe because it was sucking too much hot air https://afepower.com/afe-power-54-12...-intake-system

And I bought the additional cover to close it https://afepower.com/afe-power-54-12...e-system-cover

With this aFe, you have the noise we want, with better hot air protection.

Can you notice a difference in sound at all? Or is it very very faint if anything.

It should work on every pre-LCI model (i.e., before 2019). TBH, the picture I posted above was taken from there. But double-check the MAF sensor, just in case.

You will definitely hear the turbo. In my case, I also replaced the intake pipe (from air intake into the turbo), so mine sounds louder. But again, you will hear the difference and probably a slightly better throttle response.

aFe states an improvement up to 13HP, which IMHO is too much to be true, but I didn't dyno it. Either way, you will probably get some extra HP after installing it.

I got mine from FTP. You can check more info in this thread (installation tips, pictures, etc.): https://f48.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1880247

TBH, I don't think it's worth it. Better replace the boost pipe and charge pipe (also from FTP), which I also did (read more here https://f48.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1681458).

Or, you can go with an ECU flash to get much more HP from the B48 engine. I have ~275hp on mine, so it's highly recommended.

What company did you go with for flashing?
I have been looking into that once I have the CAI.

It seems like companies don’t offer very big HP gains as opposed to having a local tuner actually tune my ECU. I could probably get 80-90hp locally over ordering a flash/chip.

Thoughts?

I went directly to the BMW agency and asked for an ECU flash, which they did, and I didn't even lose the warranty. I don't have the details, but I believe they installed a Mini JCW file (or similar) because I got 70+ hp from that.

I can't state the real gain because I only dyno after it, and I got 275 hp, so I'm not sure if my F48 had 192hp (factory statement) or a little more. Either way, it's a 70+ hp gain and running only 91 octane gas.

If you're referring to a dyno tuning, yes, the adjustment level is excellent, but in my mind, I should keep that if I'm planning to do some serious mod on the X1 (bigger turbo, intercooler, methanol, etc.).Also, you know, this kind of tuning is more expensive, and BTW don't forget to check if your DME is locked.
