USB Connection & power supply?

I think I know the answer to this but would like someone to confirm. Does the USB connection under the centre armrest only allow the transfer of information stored on the phone or does it power the phone as well?
If it only allows the transfer of info / music, then you have to run another cable past the gear shift into the forward cubby hole to power the phone. A bit untidy if that's the case?

Anyone know what the amperage is? I've seen both good and wimpy car chargers and I wondering in which category this one falls.

No idea what the amp output is. But it's enough to keep an iPhone 6 running both satnav and Spotify fully charged.
